Bura Municipality led by CEO Issack Abdi Korio has launched the municipality's inaugural clean-up exercise today.
Speaking after flagging off the 5-day exercise that was presided over by Bura East Assistant County Commissioner Elijah Mutemi, the Municipal Manager Issack highlighted that the launch of the clean-up exercise is important as it is going to assist in sensitizing the public on cleanliness, discourage the behaviour of indiscriminate dumping of waste and eventually help eradicate the Mathenge w**d menace.

ACC Mutemi added that the municipality needs more concerted efforts from stakeholders and citizens to achieve a clean, green and aesthetic town.

The noble exercise that was supported by Governor Nathif Jama's *County Government of Garissa* administration and drew enthusiastic members of the public demonstrated a unified commitment to fostering a cleaner and healthier environment for all.

“We must all either wear out or rust out, every one of us. My choice is to wear out.”
— Theodore Roosevelt

At the beginning of his life, few would have predicted that Theodore Roosevelt even had a choice in the matter. He was sickly and fragile, doted on by worried parents. Then, a conversation with his father sent him driven, almost maniacally in the other direction. “I will make my body,” he said when told that he would not go far in this world with a brilliant mind in a frail body. What followed was a montage of boxing, hiking, horseback riding, hunting, fishing, swimming, boldly charging enemy fire, and then a grueling work pace as one of the most prolific and admired presidents in American history. Again, this epigram was prophetic for Roosevelt because at only 54 years old, his body began to wear out. An assassination attempt left a bullet lodged in his body, and it hastened his rheumatoid arthritis. On his famous “River of Doubt” expedition, he developed a tropical fever, and the toxins from an infection in his leg left him nearly dead. Back in America, he contracted a severe throat infection and was later diagnosed with inflammatory rheumatism, which temporarily confined him to a wheelchair (saying famously, “All right! I can work that way, too!”) and then he died at age 60. But there is not a person on the planet who would say that he had not made a fair trade, that he had not worn his life well and not lived a full one in those 60 years.

Every man I meet is my master at some point, and in that, I learn of him.”
~Ralph Waldo Emerson.

Everyone is better than you at something. This is a fact of life. Someone is better than you at making eye contact. Someone is better than you at quantum physics. Someone is better informed than you on geopolitics. Someone is better than you are at speaking kindly to someone they dislike. There are better gift-givers,
name-rememberers, weight-lifters,
temper-controllers, confidence-carriers, and friendship-makers. There is no one person who is the best at all these things, who doesn’t have room to improve in one or more of them. So, if you can find the humility to accept this about yourself, what you will realize is that the world is one giant classroom. Go about your day with an openness and a joy about this fact. Look at every interaction as an opportunity to learn from and of the people you meet. You will be amazed at how quickly you grow and how much better you get.

Question

A person complained to Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) that he is suffering from poverty. Nabi (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) advised him to get married.

Is this authentic?

Answer

Hafiz Khatib Al Baghdadi (rahimahullah) has recorded this incident in his Tarikh with a very weak chain.

(Tarikh Baghdad, vol. 2 pg. 233/234. Mizanul I’tidal, vol. 2 pg. 148 – 3116-)

However, there are numerous verses of The Holy Quran and Hadiths which prove that nikah does increase sustenance, among them are the following:

1) Allah Ta’ala Mentions:

“Get the unmarried ones among you married, as well as the righteous slave men and slave women. If they are poor, Allah will make them independent by his grace”

(Surah Nur, verse: 32)

Sayyiduna ‘Abdullah ibn ‘Abbas (radiyallahu ‘anhuma) under the commentary of this verse would say:

“Allah Ta’ala commanded and encouraged them to get married, and he promised them wealth”

Similar statements have also been reported from Sayyiduna Abu Bakr As Siddiq and Sayyiduna ‘Abdullah ibn Mas’ud (radiyallahu ‘anhuma)

(Refer: Tafsir Ibn Abi Hatim, Tafsir Ibn Kathir and Ad Durrul Manthur, Surah Nur, verse 32)

2) Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah (radiyallahu ‘anhu) reports that Nabi (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) said:

“There are three types of people whom it is a right upon Allah to help and assist, The Mujahid in the path of Allah, The Mukatab [a slave paying for his freedom] who intends to pay and the one who makes nikah intending chastity”

(Sunan Tirmidhi, Hadith: 1655, Sunan Ibn Majah, Hadith: 2518 – Declared sound (hasan) by Imam Tirmidhi and authentic (sahih) by Imam Ibn Hibban; Al Ihsan, Hadith: 4030)

3) Sayyiduna ‘Abdullah Ibn ‘Abbas (radiyallahu ‘anhuma) reports that (Nabi (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) said:

“Seek for sustenance in nikah”

(Daylami with a weak chain. Refer: Al Maqasidul Hasanah, pg. 82, Hadith: 162)

4) Sayyiduna ‘Umar (radiyallahu ‘anhu) said: “I have not seen anything more [strange] than a man who does not seek surplus through nikah when Allah has said, “If they are poor, Allah will make them independent by his grace.”

(Musannaf ‘Abdur Razzaq: 10393)

5) Nabi (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) said:

“Marry women, for verily they will bring wealth” [through the blessing of nikah]

(Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah, Hadith: 16161, mursalan- مرسلا- , with a reliable chain)

And Allah Ta’ala Knows best.

How To Behave With Domestic Workers.

It is a simple rule to treat your maids the way you want to be threatened by your boss or high-authorities; treat them the way you would like to be treated by fellow humans

Let's dig deep to make things more comprehensive.

1) Treat Your Maid With Respect
It is against nature to disrespect the workers, talk impolitely, still desiring them to work at the maximum level. One compliment and a gentle pat on your maid's back will cast magical wonders on her; her motivational level will go high up the skies.

Certainly, no need to compromise on the work quality; still, you are supposed to call her respectfully by her name, address her like a family member, take care of her basic needs, give her the food that you eat, and let her live at a cozy place; be gentle to her as she has left her family to serve you. Instead of shouting, reprimanding, or condescending, set some obvious rules, and give her sufficient time for adjustment.

Your courtesy mutually benefited, as your use of please, sorry, thanks will represent how big heart you contain and how educated and mannerable you are; meanwhile, your courtesy will be instilled in your kids.

2) Be Kind And Compassionate
Kindness creates goodwill in people, and it never goes unrewarded. Try to owe your maids with compassion and kindness as it is essential to forging a strong relationship.

Talk calmly yet firmly, as it is a brilliant way to address the subordinate, make your maid realize that her substandard work will not be acceptable at all. But keep in mind, maids have problems too, and they fall ill, get accidents, face misfortune tho; hence, be aware of her situation, be compassionate and keep helping her.

Your pennies can not balance her hard work and dedicated time!

3) Ensure The Maid Is Not Overworked
It is a fact that you hire your maid to reduce your domestic burden, but don't pile too much work as she needs to look after her family too. Paying someone doesn't mean you are buying them; if you can't handle all your domestic chores, don't expect that poor soul to do so.

Overwork and burden can make your maid sick, or there are possibilities she will leave the job, and eventually, you and your domestic work will be affected. There is a straightforward solution, hire more maids or divide the duties by assigning certain domestic tasks.

4) Communicate Appropriately
Communicate your house helpers very clearly as it is a key to professionalism. Be clear yet precise in your instructions, communicate with her appropriately, and assign her the tasks priorly. Communicate with your workers and ask them about their family members and ask some essential details, so you could help them when the need arises.

5) Develop Trust
Whether you have a part-time helper or a full time, develop a degree of trust between you and your maid. It never means to trust her blindly, but treat her well and let her know that you trust her like other members of the house; in this way, she will be happy and satisfied.

6) Appreciate On Her Hard Work
Appreciation is a token, and your few words are enough to buck the workers up and to make their day. The encouragement can also be demonstrated through gestures, monetary bonuses, or presets.

Your every little action may be giving her a day off from her daily routine as it will elevate your domestic helper's morale.
