IN PICTURES : 130 National Police Reservist graduate at Kimalel Action Grounds. The 130 young graduands were drawn from Saimo Soi Ward (100) and Bartabwa (30) have successfully completed their 30 days rigorous training on weapon mastery, ground manoeuvres and other tactical combating skills under General Service Unit instructors.

Among dignitaries gracing the event are: Deputy Regional Commissioner D. C Rotich, Baringo County CPC Julius Kiragu, Baringo County Commissioner Stephen Kutwa, Baringo CCIO Mike Muya, Baringo North DCC and other NGAO representatives.

Two suspected poachers have been arrested yesterday on 19th at around 5.30pm by Multi agency in Kaptagat, Flax while ferrying 14 kilogrammes of Elephant Tusks worth ksh1.4 million.

Koibatek Sub- county police commander Joseph Ongaya told journalists at Eldama Ravine police station that the suspects who were netted with the Elephant tusks were nabbed through a Joint operation by Kabarnet based KWS and Officers from E/Ravine among aothers.

The suspects are currently in Eldama Ravine police station waiting to be arraigned in court tomorrow.

MOGOTIO Constituency Sports Academy is set to begin construction in August this year. The tendering process starts on the 15th of this month.

According to the area MP Reuben Kiborek, the state-of-the-art facility will include: A FIFA-standard football pitch, An eight-lane running track, Courts for volleyball, handball, basketball, hockey, and swimming, all built to Olympic standards, A gym, Classrooms, Dormitories and Offices.

The center will not only provide sports training but also offer education to children through partnerships with schools in and around Mogotio Constituency.

Faith Jemutai Kandie, a Form 4 student at Mogotio Girls High School, has been reported missing. Faith, who hails from Kelwondonin in Baringo North, has the admission number 5896. She did not report back to school on the designated opening date, raising concerns among her family and school authorities.

Prior to her disappearance, Faith was last seen leaving home in good condition. Reports suggest that she was spotted around Mogotio Centre after her departure from home. This sighting has prompted a focused search in and around the Mogotio area, as her family and friends are eager to locate her and ensure her safety.

BARINGO SOUTH: HEAVY Rains hit Marigat Sub County on Friday night causing flooding in a number of areas as seasonal rivers burst their banks. Reports also indicate that the Perkerra River is full and its water has overflown the bridge along Nakuru - Marigat Highway.

Some of the affected areas include: Sandai, Chepkotoyan, Sokoteiwo, Longewan, Ilng'arua, Loitip, Block 4, Ng'osonik, Labos, Ndambul, and Loropil.

Residents are advised to stay vigilant.

BREAKING: BOAT CARRYING Church Members Capsizes In Lake Baringo

Rescue operations have been launched after a boat with an unknown number of occupants capsized in Lake Baringo on Sunday afternoon, April 21.

Area Police Commander Julius Kiragu confirmed the incident to the media despite details about the incident remaining scarce.

According to the police boss, the boat was heading from Salabani, at the shores of the Lake, towards Kokwa Island.

"It's true a boat has capsized in Lake Baringo and it is reported that it was ferrying church members from Kampi Samaki to Kokwa Island.

"I am yet to ascertain if there were casualties because what I have now is scanty information," said Kiragu.

Initial reports emanated from news outlets from the Rift Valley region with residents hoping for a prompt response to rescue those on board.

By the time of publishing this article, details regarding what caused the boat to capsize were yet to be established.

(1) Clock in and out promptly in the Attendance register. Attend to your lessons, give, mark and revise assignments consistently within normal working hours.

(2) Dress simply but neatly. Work hard to improve your home mean-Score. No teacher is rated according to the school mean-Score.

(3) Do not overwork yourself. Teaching will never stop when you retire or even pass on.

(4) Improve your finances by having a side hustle. Employment does not create wealth but Business and investment does.

(5) Avoid Kangaroo Courts, Land buying Witness Sessions, Beer Parties etc. Respect yourself and others. People shall judge you according to the paths you walk and the company you keep.

(6) The Society despises and hates two professionals; teachers and members of the disciplined forces. Run your lane and trust very few people. Let your family be a well guarded secrete and but a leading example in manners, hard work and academics.

(7) Do good and wait for the Lord's blessings. At least, 75% of your students and parents have a score to settle with you whether they succeed in life or not.

(8) Do not look desperate nor stoop too low. Avoid pride, loud Politicking and gossip but Instead walk shoulder high. The Society should never know how your paycheck is ailing in the ICU.

(9) Do not overspend your time in school and on school activities. After all, 75% of teachers never wanted to be in these profession while 60% of retirees are languishing in poverty.

(10) Prepare and use your Professional documents. They're the 2nd most valuable documents after your payslip.

(11) Disciplining Students is not a priority. It's the work of the administration and parents. Instead, discipline your own children. Stop hanging around the school like you are the Institution's Security Officer.

(12) Avoid loitering the village and Markets whether alone or in groups unnecessarily. Do not borrow from those who should be borrowing

In accordance with Section 101(y) of the Petroleum Act 2019 and Legal Notice No.192 of 2022, we have calculated the maximum retail prices of petroleum products which will be in force from 15th April 2024 to 14th May 2024.

In the period under review, the maximum allowed petroleum pump price for Super Petrol, Diesel and Kerosene decrease by KShs.5.31 per litre, KShs.10.00 per litre and KShs.18.68 per litre respectively.

The prices are inclusive of the 16% Value Added Tax (VAT) in line with the provisions of the Finance Act 2023, the Tax Laws (Amendment) Act 2020 and the revised rates for excise duty adjusted for inflation as per Legal Notice No. 194 of 2020.

ILCHAMUS, BARINGO SOUTH: Man from Sweden Becomes an Ilchamus Moran

When he flew to Kenya in 2011, as a volunteer with a local NGO, being an Ilchamus moran was perhaps the last thing in the mind of Max Roing, who is Swedish.

But three years later, Max 34, completely fell in love with the rich culture of the minority people on the shores of lake Baringo.

As if that is not enough, the soft-spoken Max was among 5,000 Ilchamus youth of Baringo County, who graduated to manhood last week after traditional circumcision in 2014.

"I came to Kenya as a tourist and also to help in environmental conservation through planting trees in Kajiado County," Mr Roing told said after the graduation.

He has now embraced his new culture, including the dress code complete with a dark pink shuka, a sword strapped to his brown belt, black sandals and decorative beaded attire. The rite of passage has enabled him to enter the current age-group, Ilmeng'ati.

"My name is Max Lemeyan Le Kachuma from the Ilchamus tribe and a clan called Iltoimai," he confidently introduces himself as he sips sour milk from a cup.

He then unwraps a polythene with round, yellow substances. He picks handful and pours some onto his milk.

Max has since married from the Samburu community in a Maa traditional wedding ceremony and lives in Samburu and Baringo Counties.

DEVELOPING STORY: PLANS to set up a military camp in Baringo county are at an advanced stage.

Last week, top Ministry of Defence officials held talks with the county government officials to finalise the arrangements.

The meeting was attended by the Ministerial Ad Hoc Committee on Military Lands chair Brigadier Foustine Sirera, Col George Otieno, Governor Benjamin Cheboi and County Lands Executive, Arch Reuben Rutto among other officials.

Rutto disclosed that the military is seeking 1,000 acres of land in Mukutani, Baringo South, and Loiyamorock in Tiaty to establish a permanent camp, paramilitary training field and aircraft space.

He said the military was eyeing land within the volatile Mukutani, Loyamorock, and Saimo Soi which has been a buffer zone for bandits.

“The presence of the military will help in solving the protracted banditry crisis, a committee from KDF and the county government have been selected to compile reports and present it within a month,” he said.

Rutto said the Lands Department will conduct public participation and engage leaders to agree on allocation of land for the military. The process of allocating land for the establishment of the training centre started in 2019.

Rutto regretted that bandits had destroyed property in Baringo South and Braingo North and a military base in the area would end the menace.

“The establishment of the military base in Mukutani and Loyamorock will result in restoration of peace and harmony in the region and improve lives of the local people,” he said.

Governor Cheboi emphasised that the decision was critical for national security and safety of locals who have been displaced and others killed because of banditry.

“We have a responsibility to navigate these discussions with integrity, transparency and inclusivity,” Cheboi said.

NAIROBI: BARINGO BURSARY and Emergency Funds, have been discovered to have been operating illegally due to a lack of a legal framework, Senate Committee on County Public Investments (CPIC) has said.

The committee that hosted a team from Baringo County Government led by Governor Cheboi to answer the queries, has also observed that money was lost in financial year 2020/21 as bursary of about Sh1 million was issued without records of student admission details, hence could not be accounted for.

The county has been given less than a month to inform the Senate about the whereabouts of the unaccounted-for funds.
