Ishii, Ohyama, and TSato have been selected to the Samurai Japan roster vs the Netherlands in March. Manager Ibata said he knows what the players from Premier-12 last fall, none of whom were selected including Tigers Saiki and Morish*ta, are capable of, so he wanted to check out a whole new slate of players. This is all with an eye toward the WBC in 2026. (JJJ)

I want to repay you with my performance this year” is the rough translation of the gist of Sato’s message after Jerry’s last day as an official Tigers affiliate (US scout, temporary coach, etc). New pitchers Duplantier and Nelson had their first press conference as Tigers. The former has a lot of confidence in his breaking ball, while the latter said look out for his knuckler and changeup. They said they’d like to be called “Dupe” (ok, not sure that’s the spelling—phonetically, “Dewp”) and “Nelly”. 😎 (JJJ)

More on the B-LUCK (Black) Dynamite Series uniforms:
Back in 1948-49, when they were called the Osaka Tigers, the team sported black away uniforms. The explosive offense was known as the “Dynamite Line-up” (dainamaito dasen ダイナマイト打線）, led by the original Mr. Tigers, Fumio Fujimura, whose #10 is one of only 3 retired numbers for Hanshin. As it turns out, our clean-up hitter this year, Morish*ta, shares the same Aug 14 birthday with Fujimura, and he says he hopes to ride a similar wave and have a strong season! (JJJ)

For old-timer fans, this article which reports Randy Bass offering his congratulations to Masayuki Kakefu for his induction into the NPB HOF Experts’ Division (following his own induction in 2023), calling “Kake” the “always and forever Mr. Tigers”, also notes that he will be back in Japan for the 90th Anniversary events (April-July) on July 1 vs the Giants (against whom he, Kakefu, and Okada hit back-to-back-to-back jacks to CF in the famous 1985 Nippon-Ichi campaign).
