🎉 ITOSHIMA OYSTER HUTS OPEN IN OCTOBER 2024! 🎉/ 今年の糸島カキ小屋は10月5日から！::: The renowned "Itoshima Oyster Huts," a beloved seasonal tradition in Fukuoka's Itoshima, needs no introduction. Each year, fishermen open their huts at local fishing ports for a limited time, offering oysters grown in the waters of Itoshima that customers can grill themselves. From autumn to early spring, during peak oyster season, both locals and visitors from across Japan and overseas flock to Itoshima’s ports to enjoy this seasonal delicacy. In 2024, two huts will open on October 5, with several more opening the following weekend, as this year’s oyster season kicks off.

In terms of yield and production, it holds second place for strawberries and kiwis, and third for persimmons nationwide. The fruit production here is primarily concentrated in the southern Chikugo area, where the gently sloping hills, superior water drainage, and ample sun exposure make cities like Ukiha, Asakura, and Kurume ideal for persimmon cultivation.
Fukuoka has the distinction of being the first Japanese prefecture to grow the slightly larger, sweeter Kyoho grape. These grapes are primarily cultivated in Kurume, Tanushimaru, Ukiha, and Yame. The prefecture is also known for its innovative use of ethylene gas ripening technology to sweeten kiwis before shipping, ensuring they're delicious and ready for export. Tachibana-machi in Fukuoka is one of the leading producers of these sweetened kiwis.
