Rest in peace Hussein Madi Lebanese painter, sculptor and printmaker 1938 - 2024

Madi studied painting, sculpture and printing in Beirut at the Lebanese Academy of Fine Arts and Rome at the Academia di Belle Arti. Born in 1938 in Chebaa, South Lebanon. Madi outlined a silhouette of woman on the entire surface of the canvas with quick strokes of his large brush. His paintings are often based on interplays between straight and curved lines

The terror of being A PREGNANT WOMAN IN G*ZA during the ongoing genocid

Due to the shortage of medical supplies, pregnant Palestinian women are forced to watch their bellies getting cut open and feeling each moment of the process. They feel and see each sharp object that cuts into their bodies. Many of those operations are performed under the phone's flashlights while the hospitals are shaking due to the heavy Israeli bombing

*Many of the women who are delivering without anesthesia are already suffering with amputated body parts due to the bombing, and many other horrifying injuries that are already unbearable. Doctors can only provide thick pieces of cloths for them to bite on, that is the only available method to ease their pain. The torture they are going through is hard to comprehend

*Many of the pregnant women who are rescued from under the rubble are suffering with fatal injuries in placenta, causing the immediate death for the baby, or the mother, and in many cases, for both

*PREMATURE BIRTH
Delivering the baby is not the end of the crisis. Many Gazan babies are currently born before 37 weeks of pregnancy are completed, making them in urgent and constant need of Incubators. Due to the blackout off electricity in hospitals, many of those babies are in imminent danger of death.

*The aftermath
The women who do manage to reach a health center are sent home "three hours after delivery" to make room for other women or the wounded. Without food, clean water, electricity or fuel to keep incubators and intensive care units running, and with a health system "battered and on the verge of collapse. And it is not only women about to give birth who are at risk, many pregnant women went through miscarriages due to the devouring circumstance.

Women and girls getting their periods in Gaza face humiliating conditions and infections, forced to use diapers or scraps of cloth after more than two months of war.

"I cut up my kid's clothes or any piece of cloth I find, and I use them like sanitary towels for my period," said 25-year-old Hala Ataya in the southern city of Rafah where many have fled.

On December 24,2033, the United Nations estimates that around 50,000 pregnant women are currently living in Gaza, with more than 180 births taking place every day amid the “decimation” of its healthcare system

Hospitals, protected under international humanitarian law, have repeatedly been hit by Israeli strikes since the war erupted.

As of December 20, the WHO registered 246 Israeli attacks on healthcare infrastructure in Gaza, including hospitals and ambulances.

In the haunting echoes of history, Gaza on Christmas Eve and Bethlehem under Herod’s rule resonate with a shared tragedy of innocent lives caught in heart-wrenching circumstances. As the world celebrates the season of hope and peace, the people of Gaza endure a modern-day ethnic cleansing while the world is silently watching. Much like the heart-rending biblical tale of Bethlehem, where the wails of innocent children pierced the air as Herod’s decree unfolded, the souls of Gaza’s residents cry out in the darkness. In both instances, the air is thick with sorrow, as the innocence of the vulnerable is sacrificed on the altars of power and conflict, leaving communities shattered and hearts heavy with the weight of unfulfilled dreams.
