Aim of the Project
The project IT conservation of traditional architecture and heritage aims to fill the gap of applying digital technologies in Jordan to support heritage conservation plans. The are in the process of establishing a dedicated Centre of Excellence (COE), “HERIT-IT JORDAN”, that will have the potential to activate a virtual infrastructure enabling cross-collaboration among academia, industry, government and civic society in the field of digital technologies and heritage conservation.
As-Salt is currently used as a testbed to develop a set of virtual models (3D models and BIM objects) suitable to support the construction sector on the conservation of Urban Architectural Heritage and document tangible heritage. We are currently developing a new set of BIM (Building Information Modelling) objects of exemplar buildings in As-Salt, thus creating a library of BIM objects available to practitioners operating in the conservation field. We are also developing virtual tours based on 3D models of exemplar heritage buildings, providing the Jordan Tourism Board with promotional tools for heritage tourism in Jordan.
