Today, we remember and honor the legacy of Clement "Sir Coxsone" Dodd, the visionary behind Studio One Records. His dedication to Jamaican music helped shape the sound of reggae and influenced generations of artists around the world.

Born in Kingston, Jamaica, in 1932, Sir Coxsone began his career as a sound system operator in the 1950s, organizing dances and playing music for crowds in the streets of Kingston. He soon recognized the potential of local talent and established Studio One Records in 1963, providing a platform for emerging artists to showcase their music.

Under his guidance, Studio One Records became one of the most influential record labels in Jamaican history, producing hit after hit and launching the careers of legendary artists such as Bob Marley, Peter Tosh, and Dennis Brown.

Sir Coxsone's passion for music and commitment to his community made him a beloved figure in Jamaica and beyond. His legacy lives on through the countless artists he helped nurture and the timeless music he created.

We honor his memory today and always. Rest in peace, Sir Coxsone Dodd. 🎶🇯🇲

Clement Seymour Dodd was born on January 26, 1932. We celebrate today his great accomplishments as Jamaica's top musical pioneer.

In his early twenties, inspired by his love of music, he began the journey that was his dream. As a youthful dancer much in demand he branched out by using his mother's establishment to start playing records and growing an audience. He went on to become one of the top early dancehall promoters before turning to creating his own recordings. With a keen ear for hits he discovered many of Jamaica's greatest singers, and was instrumental in launching the careers of many, including T***s & the Maytals and Bob Marley. He became one of the cornerstones of the reggae industry and Jamaica's greatest producer.

His legacy is the music he created.
