Hayley Matthews with a rather remarkable unbeaten 99 from just 74 balls against Australia in Australia. And you'd have to think hard to remember a false shot in those 74 deliveries. She propels the West Indies to 147/3 after 20 in the first T20I.

A few points from the 2023 Women's Caribbean Premier League ( ) season:

1. After a season such as the one just concluded, Natasha McLean can feel hard done to have been overlooked for West Indies' upcoming tour of Australia.

2. Cherry Ann Fraser as a prospect is one the Caribbean is excited about. The 24-year-old will grow with each experience but at the moment, she is still just that: inexperienced. If Fraser is anything less than effective against the Aussies, the West Indies will be left exposed at the death.

3. How does Shabika Gajnabi go from bowling 7 overs across two games, taking 3 wickets at 15.33 apiece with an ECON of 6.54 in the 2022 campaign, to not bowling a ball the next?

4. The West Indies Women might soon find themselves with an issue akin to the Men, having to field wrist-spinner-less XIs in a format where the game is oftentimes decided by the quality of wrist-spin a team has up their sleeve.

Trinbago Knight Riders captain, Kieron Pollard following win against the Jamaica Tallawahs:

“For me, the disappointing part was bowling 14 overs of spin in a cricket match (and still be penalised for a slow over-rate). One thing I’ve learned from the old people saying in Trinidad and Tobago is that common sense was made before book sense, and the logic of this rule makes me wonder how we are actually going to go forward with it.”

CWI has announced the 15-member squad for the tour to Australia in October. The six-match Series comprises 3 T20Is and 3 ODIs.

Following the West Indies Women’s clean sweep against Ireland Women earlier in the summer, the panel has named an unchanged squad for the Australia tour under the leadership of Captain Hayley Matthews. The tour will be the first for new Head Coach Shane Deitz who arrived in the West Indies at the end of August.

The inclusion of the ‘Rising Stars’ quartet of Ashmini Munisar, Djenaba Joseph, Zaida James, and Jannillea Glasgow will see some of our youngest talent in the team having their first opportunity to test their skills against the current T20I and 50-Over World Champions Australia.

Lead Selector for Women’s cricket, Ann Browne-John: “The selection panel has chosen to maintain most of the players who were victorious in the home series against Ireland. Jannillea Glasgow, after having an outstanding Rising Stars Women’s Under 19 tournament, has been included in the 15-member squad and we see the return of Karishma Ramharack.”

I think I said almost everything that needed to be said regarding the finale during the watch party last evening. We questioned GAW's decision at the toss, some of us (😉) immediately thought 169 was a winning total, and we lauded Matthews who was everywhere with bat, ball and skipper's hat on.

But I must highlight Rashada Williams who played a crucial knock of 36 (23). There has been much discussion about her SR since she burst onto the scene, and to see her strike at 156 on such a big stage is so pleasing and welcomed from a West Indies perspective.

Not to mention her work with the gloves: she effected three stumpings plus one catch. Well done, Rashada.
