Aleksandar Denić, representing Serbia at the Venice Art Biennale, joins the Prestigious Academy of Arts in Berlin

Aleksandar Denić, renowned for his innovative set designs, has been celebrated by critics as spectacular and genius due to his use of additional meanings in his visual language, creating intricate webs of information and possible interpretations. Denić has won numerous prestigious awards, including the “Faust,” the German national award. He has been named best set designer of the year multiple times and, according to a survey by the esteemed magazine “Theater heute,” has been chosen twice as the best set designer in the German-speaking area. His work on the “Ring of the Nibelung” cycle, directed by Frank Castorf for the two-hundredth anniversary of Richard Wagner’s birth, stands out as particularly distinguished.

Now, Denić has received another significant honor through his membership in the prestigious Academy of Arts in Berlin. The selection of new academy members recognizes their exceptional contributions to art and culture. According to the official announcement, the elections took place at the 62nd assembly (May 24-26, 2024) in Berlin, and all new members have accepted their selection. The Academy of Arts currently has 435 members across its six artistic sections, including renowned figures such as Ai Weiwei, Bob Dylan, Renzo Piano, Lord Norman Foster, Herta Müller, Wim Wenders, and Richard Deacon. Founded in 1696, the Akademie der Künste is one of the oldest cultural institutions in Europe.

We congratulate Aleksandar Denić on this significant recognition and look forward to his future projects.

The European Cultural Centre presents the seventh edition of Personal Structures, the contemporary art biennial running in Venice until the 24th of November 2024. International artists and creatives have once again transformed the venues of Palazzo Bembo, Palazzo Mora, and the Giardini della Marinaressa, showcasing more than 200 projects.

Under the guiding theme "Beyond Boundaries", Personal Structures aims to explore the complex dynamics of our global society. Far from being a mere exhibition, the show presents itself as a journey that crosses geographical, political, religious, cultural, and artistic borders.

Sara Danieli, Head of Art, states: “Delving into the challenges of global migration and the intricate web of national identities, Personal Structures emerges as a vital artistic dialogue, transcending borders and reflecting the complexities of our interconnected world.”
