VERTOV is an independent studio whose strength is its ongoing research into the dynamics originating from the confluence of video with other conterminous or adjacent activities like graphics and the plastic and scenic arts. Focus is not only on the video product itself but also on its unedited expressive behaviours that originate in the dialogue between images and their surrounding space. We explo
re the articulated relationships between the video and the place where it is shown, for example theaters, museums and other architectures; at the same time we encourage a close interaction between image and sound for example in video installations and video stagings for exhibitions, multimedia events, concerts and theatre. In the theatre VERTOV has worked in the most prestigious Italian theatres and opera houses, and beyond Italy in Europe, the United States and Japan. We have collaborated with directors such as Daniele Abbado, Roberto Andò, Franco Ripa di Meana, Luca Ronconi, Dominique Pitoiset, and with conductors such as Carlo Maria Giulini, Claudio Abbado and Miung Whun Chung. VERTOV has also realized the visual projects for the shows of some of the most prominent and sought after Italian music makers such as Giorgio Battistelli, Luca Francesconi, Michele Tadini, Piero Milesi and Nicola Sani. We have mounted exhibitions and multimedia installations for the Museum of the opera theatre La Scala Milan, for the Milan Triennale, the Venice Biennale’s International Festival of Contemporary Music, Ircam in Paris and for Réseau Varèse. Regular collaborators with VERTOV’s Luca Scarzella are Michele Innocente for post production, and Roberto Barbierato for filming and photography.
