Exilles is a project born from the alchemy of two minds, united by a common desire to undermine, compose and recompose raw, corrosive and dreamy sounds with a mystical and enigmatic imagery. They strictly perform live, orchestrating ancestral ceremonies with analog machines and modular synthesizers, whose dark and hypnotic sounds chase the persistent in a synesthetic atmosphere.

With their techno built around the polarity of light and darkness, black and white, continuously keeps us poised between opposites, between consciousness and raving.

After years of experience of residency as LiveAct/DjSet among European Techno scene with other alias, they release the first ep as Exilles on Involve Records, followed by other ep’s on A.R.T.S, Planet Rhythm, Persistence and their own Genau Recordings. They performed Live in different Clubs like Smolna, Griessmuehle, Fabrik and more.

TTØRA is a project that integrates musical instruments with electroacoustic/analog/digital music components. Many of the sound samples are recorded around the world with a handy recorder, then developed digitally in post-production. Acoustic Prolusions blends the composer’s various musical backgrounds, producing a totally hybrid and personal sound. On top of that, the arrangement and mixing are done with a particular technology that permits a binaural immersive listening, enhanced particularly with headphones. This EP represents a new step that follows previous research in 3D music and spatialization. Its realization was possible thanks to producer Riccardo Mazza from Experimental Studios and his experience in spatial mixing.

TTØRA is a side-project born in parallel to the academic path of Diego Ratto. Musician and composer, he started as a self-taught guitarist and then entered academia studying Jazz Guitar and Electronic Music, graduating with two bachelor’s degrees at the Music Conservatory of Alessandria (Italy). Afterwards, he specialized in Electroacoustic Composition with a Master’s Degree in Music at the KMH - Royal College of Music in Stockholm (Sweden). He is currently a PhD student in Music Composition at the UCSB - University of California Santa Barbara (USA). His acousmatic works have been performed in many festivals around the world and his music has been awarded in several international competitions, including: Sound of Silences - Edison Studio - Romaeuropa 2020 (Rome, ITA), Golden Lala Awards 2020 (Poznan, PL), Musicworks Magazine Electronic Music Contest 2020 (Toronto, CAN), Wocmat 2018International Phil Winsor Computer Music Competition (Taiwan), Rimusicazioni Film Festival 2018 (Bolzano, IT), Residency Prix CIME 2017 - International Confederation of Electroacoustic Music, Electroacoustic Contest EFME 2016 (Santa Fe, RA).

BINAURAL SPACE & SPATIALIZED AUDIO x [GENAURECULT002] 🇬🇧⬇️

Siamo quasi pronti per la seconda uscita GENAU Unlimited prevista per settembre 2021. Questo nuovo lavoro sarà realizzato da TTØRA (Diego Ratto) ed è stato prodotto da Riccardo Mazza presso gli Experimental Studios di Torino, ricreando un “spazio binaurale” che è stato pensato fin dalle prime fasi di registrazione in studio. Uno spazio immersivo che viene creato modulando e curando ogni singolo componente sonoro dalla registrazione al processing al mixing finale. Sono stati utilizzati tool proprietari sviluppati da Riccardo, in anni di ricerca, utilizzando anche un sistema Kyma Computer.

Il fenomeno dell’audio spazializzato non è certo nuovo, giá dagli anni ‘50 è stato studiato e utilizzato sia in musica da artisti come Stockhausen, Cage, Varese e in seguito negli anni ’70 sia in ambito cinematografico con l’introduzione del Dolby Surround. Riccardo Mazza ha un background sulla spazializzazione del suono fin dai primi anni 2000: ha realizzato la RenaissanceSFX Surround Library, prima libreria di suoni mai prodotta in Dolby Surround, registrando in giro per il mondo e utilizzando tecniche microfoniche appositamente sviluppate. Un lavoro recensito sulle più importanti testate del settore come Mix Magazine, Pro Sound, Audiomedia. Nel 2003 crea SoundBuilder il primo software di spazializzazione multicanale e multiformato a oggetti, un precursore dell’attuale Dolby Atmos, che gli è valso l'invito come relatore al Surround Symposium per ben due volte all’AES (Audio Engeneering Society) prima a San Francisco e poi a New York.

All’epoca la platea era composta da pochi addetti al settore, mentre oggi grazie alle nuove tecnologie, soprattutto nell’ambito del gaming, l’audio spazializzato binaurale è una realtà che sempre più nel futuro prenderà piede anche in ambito musicale.

We are almost ready for the second GENAU Unlimited release, scheduled for September 2021. This new work will be produced by TTØRA (Diego Ratto) and has been produced by Riccardo Mazza at Experimental Studios in Turin, recreating a "binaural space" that has been conceived from the early stages of studio recording . An immersive space created by modulating and taking care of every single sound component from recording to processing to final mixing. Proprietary tools developed by Riccardo over years of research were used, using a Kyma Computer system.

The phenomenon of spatialized audio is not new. Since the ‘50s it was studied and used both in music by artists such as Stockhausen, Cage, Varese and later also in the ‘70s, both in cinema with the introduction of Dolby Surround standard. Riccardo Mazza has a background in sound spatialization since the early 2000s. He created the RenaissanceSFX Surround Library, the first Dolby Surround sound library ever, recording around the world and using specially developed microphone techniques. A work reviewed on the most important industry publications such as Mix Magazine, Pro Sound, Audiomedia. In 2003 he created SoundBuilder the first multi-channel and multi-format object spatialization software, a precursor of the current Dolby Atmos, which earned him the invitation as speaker at the Surround Symposium in AES (Audio Engineering Society), first in San Francisco and then in New York.

At that time, the audience was made up of few professionals, while today, thanks to new technologies, especially in the field of gaming, binaural spatialized audio is a reality that will increasingly become popular in the future also in the musical field.

[RELEASE INFO] Project-To, for its personal audio and video experimentation, meets the literary dimension through the work of Charles Baudelaire, forerunner of the vision of our present world and of the distress of the contemporary human being. The duo made by Riccardo Mazza and Laura Pol elaborates a project where vocal elements look at unexplored sound horizons, inspired by the famous poetry from Les Fleurs du Mal, whose verses, in their explicit mix of high and low, sublime and vulgar, are a direct consequence of the opposition between spleen and idéal. Riccardo wanted to resume the traditional method of recording directly on the tape as they used to do in recording studios in the 80s and 90s, taking care of the ex*****on manually until the perfect take is reached. Analog, modular synthesizers and vintage samplers were used along with the numerous 80s and 90s machines of the studio. Each sound has been meticulously processed using the many iconic processors featured at Experimental Studios. The voice is Laura Pol’s and has been algorithmically processed using a Kyma system specially programmed by Riccardo.

[ARTIST BIO] Project-To stems in 2015 from an idea of Riccardo Mazza (composer, teacher for the Scuola di Alto Perfezionamento Musicale in Saluzzo, multimedia artist specialized in sound experimental research) and Laura Pol (photographer and video-maker, author of various work in artistic, cultural and museum fields). From 2016 until today, Project-TO released three albums and created many A/V, site specific and experimental projects, both for institutions (Museo Nazionale del Cinema, Art Site Fest, Distretto Cinema, Artissima, Paratissima and Torino Solidale…) and for clubs and international festivals, such as Seeyousound, Torino Film Festival, Share e Robot Festival. It’s an "authorial" project of electronic music and video art, which develops from the interaction of purely electronic elements with original compositions performed live together with visual elements also carried out in real time during the Live Set. An evolving project that transforms and explores the space around it.

[LABEL INFO] GENAU Unlimited is a new sub-label from Genau Recordings, Turin based label already know for its several techno releases from 2017 to today. Genau Unlimited, on the other hand, was born, as the name implies, without limits and boundaries. Or rather, it is a label that intends to give space to all those electronic sounds that are defined as non-conventional or non-linear. No techno, house or deep-house therefore, but big space for ambient, experimental, broken sounds, wave or melodic and instrumental lines that usually dont find a place on dancefloors or in bags of most DJs.
