This stunning little Lambretta J50 Deluxe is now on its way back to the UK to the owner.
It has had a complete 'conserved' restoration carried out, with some trick upgrades to make it more enjoyable and useable to use in modern traffic. The scooter was stripped 100%, thoroughly degreased, cleaned and polished. 90% of the paintwork is the original 'Apple Green' and it was only 'blown in' where needed, or on the replacement parts.
The original engine was changed for a 4-speed Starstream casing, fitted with all the latest upgrades from Casa Performance ('CP'): Maxibox exhaust, CPOne35 (135cc) kit, Lunamaster 5-plate clutch, Iwis chain and CP guide, HD4 crankshaft, CP mag fl**ge, CP sidecasing, Ducati Firefly 12V ignition, 21mm Polini carb and much more. The casings were acid dipped, welded on the underside to strengthen the usual gearbox mounting point weak area, and then all the gasket faces were machined for gas/oil-tight sealing. John Walklate did the superb polishing of the sidecasing.
The mods and upgrades include: a modified Vespa smallframe inside legshield toolbox that also serves to house a 12V battery and USB charger, a Starstream rear spring (as it is a little longer than the original 50cc spring) for better ground clearance, wider 100/125cc type front brake shoes, front dampers, teflon-lined cables, SIP speedo/ rev counter, and of course, the GP headlight conversion.
This was also done on the Indian manufactured Lambretta Cento / Sunny 100cc scooters and the special under-headset reduction cone and special main clamp are from Graham McBear in the UK. This modification, apart from looking good, also gives better (smoother) controls, a better/ bigger headlight, and the possibility to fit the SIP speedo. A special steering lock stop has also been welded to the frame, as the original J50 lock is no longer used. The NOS rear light unit is an oddball part that is curved on the underside to suit the later production Innocenti frames, but unlike 50cc lights, this takes the bigger 100/125cc type lense and reflector, thus allowing the fitment of a stoplight.
The new replacement parts were all purchased from Rimini Lambretta Centre whilst all the original NOS parts came from Swiss Tony's Scooter Spares in the UK.
The scooter now makes about 12bhp and will happily do 60-65mph, with acceleration on par with a Lambretta GP200.
