Excited to reveal our latest studio production: a tribute to jazz legend Charles Mingus by longtime double bassist and music educator Attilio Zanchi. This project, nurtured for two decades with a close-knit group of musicians, was finally recorded last October and has been presented live to electrified audiences over the past months.
“To represent Mingus's music requires work, inspiration, love, and courage. Attilio Zanchi's work is much more than a portrait; it's a living gallery of "ways of being Mingus." In this extraordinary album, traditional jazz, classical and contemporary music, as well as dixieland and free jazz, coexist. “Mingus Portrait” encompasses the entirety of the 20th century. Attilio Zanchi's act of love and talent, accompanied by great names of Italian jazz alongside younger talents, is a gateway to Charlie Mingus's sonic, human, political, and cultural universe. “Chet On Poetry” is 𝐂𝐡𝐞𝐭’𝐬 𝐬𝐩𝐢𝐫𝐢𝐭𝐮𝐚𝐥 𝐭𝐞𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 in music. Recorded in Rome in early 1988 and released posthumously the following year, it stands out for its unique charm and innovative concept. In fact, the album seamlessly 𝐦𝐞𝐫𝐠𝐞𝐬 𝐦𝐮𝐬𝐢𝐜 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝐩𝐨𝐞𝐭𝐫𝐲, as Chet plays, acts and sings on Nicola Stilo’s music and interprets the words of two Roman poets, Gianluca Manzi and Maurizio Guercini - translated into English.
Taken from the 𝐨𝐫𝐢𝐠𝐢𝐧𝐚𝐥 𝐦𝐚𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝐭𝐚𝐩𝐞𝐬, carefully remastered and featuring new, 𝐞𝐱𝐭𝐞𝐧𝐬𝐢𝐯𝐞 𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐞𝐫 𝐧𝐨𝐭𝐞𝐬, this first-ever LP/CD reissue of "Chet On Poetry" represents an indispensable addition to any serious Chet Baker’s discography.

Undeterred he continued to track the singer down. It took two years and a session was eventually booked on Oct 24 at The Hook Studio in Red Hook, Brooklyn. As Hiro recalls: “We had to pace out the different takes as Mark was 76 or 77 years old at the time.
