C41 Magazine

C41 Magazine An ordinary life makes an extraordinary story C41 is an online magazine of photography. It’s not an art gallery and it’s not a niche. It’s not just images.

It’s not subversion, yet it doesn’t claim to enclose authorship within the narrow spaces of authority. It’s also interviews and projects of different kinds.

The Moving Image: In conversation with Delia Simonetti

“One of the main concepts in my research is the idea of magic seen as reality, rather than as a oneiric experience. In this work I needed to represent how deeply changing the bond with other people, how the otherworldly–that can represent another way of being, of thinking, a door to another dimension intended as in a hallucination but also something we feel, such as loss or love–is extremely close to our reality and dimension.”

Piero Percoco Solo Show. The Rainbow Over Milan at BiM is on until November 24.

Piero Percoco's unique photographic style originates from his keen observation of the local context surrounding him. This context is characterized by its touristic, ironic, yet familiar and sensitive nature in Apulia. Through a combination of landscape and sociological representations, Percoco has developed his aesthetic, characterized by vibrant
and contrasting colours. This aesthetic forms a metaphorical rainbow, symbolizing the traditions and contradictions of our peninsula. While those residing in Milan may not frequently witness rainbows after thunderstorms, they certainly retain a nostalgic memory of them. This memory can resurface, intertwined with colourful recollections of summers,
carnivals, and the vivid skies. These memories are intertwined with the gestures and people that define everyday life.

Visit us from 11:00 AM to 5:00 PM.

QuadroDesign Super Collection designed by Calvi Brambilla

“We started with the search for a shape that would allow the k**b to be easily gripped with the hand, hence an ergonomic design, but that would not look like an object simply drawn according to its function. The squircle is a geometric figure that we love because it looks like it was drawn freehand but is governed by a mathematical function: not surprisingly, it is a shape that is widely used in the design of physical interfaces such as keyboards.”

C41 and BiM are happy to invite you to Piero Percoco Talk & Show at BiM on the occasion of the BiM Fest on September 28th. Join us from 5PM to 6 PM at BiM Garden for a special talk between the artist Piero Percoco and Raffaele Panizza, a journalist, creative, curator and story-designer who writes about current affairs, culture, architecture and adventure for leading Italian and international magazines (Wired, Vanity Fair, D, Style-Corriere della Sera, AD, Interni, The Good Life, National Geographic and New York Times Magazine.)

The talk will invite reflection on the relationship between humans and the sky today, between urban pollution and natural oases at the semblance of pristine. What can the sky tell us about human habits today? Do we really know it as well as we think we do, to the point of ignoring it or seeing it as a mundane space that we often forget about except at sunset, when it sometimes shows up in spectacle, or “Instagrammable” shapes and colors? The session will be devoted to unveil Percoco's most recent photos of skies and nature and Panizza's recent research on the disappearance of darkness, documented in the book “Protege Noctem” published with Mattia Balsamini.

Free entrance from Via Polvani/Via Temolo, Milan (Bicocca MM5 | FS Greco Pirelli). Register via the link in bio.

C41 explored Conero Film + Adv (CFA), in the Conero Natural Park (Marche, Italy). Filmmakers greatly honoured excellence in sustainable cinema, CFA’s cornerstone. Conscious approach to production and unique perspectives on sustainable matters was found throughout the shortlisted directors’ work. As a counterpoint to attending the festival, we squeezed in just enough time to enjoy nature in the ten hectares of Villa Giuggiola, where the festival takes place: a restored park livened up by the local community and Local Bizzarro and Montanari PR’s initiative.

Awarded directors:

Penzacola
Rich Lee
Francesco Clerici + Tommaso Barbaro
Jan Dybus
Bianca Poletti
Kasia Bielska
Nicola Martini
Enrico Bellenghi
Jordan "Dr.Cool" Minkoff
Delia Simonetti
Matthew Palmer

Walking Along the Parramatta by Matteo Dal Vera

"Initially, I was fascinated by the fact that the Parramatta River is the main tributary of the Syney Harbour. They have a shared history, and yet the river's existence is overshadowed by the typical tourist attractions of the harbour. Thinking about this led me to an early fixation that I wanted to see the river from start to end. So, I bush-bashed through all this dense vegetation, just so I could see the head of the river and the two small creeks that fed into it," says Matteo Dal Vera, expressing his initial drive while working on the photographic series "Walking Along the Parramatta River," commissioned by Powerhouse Parramatta.

Located on Dharug Land, Powerhouse Parramatta is one of the world's most significant new museums projects. Powerhouse acknowledges the Traditional
Custodians of the ancestral homelands upon which the museum is situated, They respect their Elders, past, present and future and recognise their continuous connection to the Country.

This is how we craft C41 Magazine

C41 Magazine was born from a very simple need: to search for and gather compelling visual stories.

Great stories deserve to be shared and reach out to the greatest number of people possible.

The family got bigger and bigger, and so did that simple yet strong belief, turning into the idea of bringing some of those projects to the resilient nature of paper: the first printed issue of C41 Magazine was born.

Along with a biannual monothematic publication, every day we feature projects coming from all over the world, either carefully selected among dozens of submissions, or as the result of a deep and constant research, that we have been carrying on since the first day, with the same energy, if not even greater.
