The Florence of art, as another mother, welcomes again in her womb her own prodigal son, the Greek painter Stavros Ditsios. The Luigi Bellini Museum in Florence, from April 9 to 16, hosts its solo exhibition entitled, "Madre Natura".
The restless artist returns to the city from where he graduated with honors from the Academy of Fine Arts, challenging us to confront this pivotal moment in history; The relentless destruction of Mother Nature. Will we humans be able to harmonize in the circular dance of nature until the "I" becomes the "we" and finally be reborn;
Madre Nature
In the series of works entitled MADRE NATURE, the painter studies the elements of nature, and is inspired by them, creating his own particular narratives. Faithful to the abstract expressionism that follows from the beginning of his painting career, Stavros Ditsios impresses with his consistency in technique, at the same time defining his visual language through a way of communication guided by repetitive symbols. These optical codes, in a way, remind us of the connection with the here and now. The circle is the reference point, the "I" but also the "we" that is placed in the natural environment, in images of nature, sometimes a spectator but also a participant in what is happening around him. Images-objects as such do not exist for the painter, only visions that provide him with the necessary raw material of his creative activity.
The perfect geometry of nature, the wonderfully distinct relief of the planet, the miracle of life itself, inspire the painter but also trouble him by asking questions about the future that seems bleak due to the greedy exploitation of natural resources by man. The works of the series seem to be a mapping of monuments praising nature, a poetic expression of admiration and respect for a reality that unfortunately changes dramatically due to climate change.
The painter pays special attention to the tonal variations with the color gradations arousing interest and at the same time moving. Emphasizing the structure of the work, the painting surface is an environment where the concept of the natural world is built and at the same time deconstructed. This is how his conceptual framework is translated: the works are transformed into color media where the painter submits his memories and impressions in relation to nature, its beauty and the harmony that it reflects.
