Court of Appeal schedules hearing for Mohamed Kamarainba Mansaray's appeal

Dutch journalist Sophie, who was arrested and detained by Sierra Leonean police, left Sierra Leone this morning, February 17, 2025, at around 5 AM from Freetown's Lungi International Airport. She was accompanied to the airport by noted lawyer Charles Abass Bangura Esq of Edrinas Chambers. Dutch Journalist, MS Sophie Van Leeuwen was arrested and detained for questioning at the CID headquarters by the Sierra Leone Police.

In a press release, the SLP stated that the arrest was done to thoroughly ascertain the activities of the journalist in the country. Van Leeuwen was released following the conclusion of her questioning.

Though the police didn't mention the outcome of the investigation, it's noteworthy that in recent weeks, there has been a wake-up call in connection to a Dutch drug fugitive alleged to have resided in the country.

Whether Sophie Van Leeuwen, an Africa correspondent for RTL Nieuws, was here for journalistic purposes remains unclear. However, sources suggest that she is here for espionage, while others assert the Ministry of Information is aware of her presence in the country.

Police sources believe that Sophie's arrest was part of the mechanism and framework of the police to ensure security protocols are duly observed in the country.

"Victor Onie Williams died at his friend's house, where a group of other boys were present. From the autopsy he suffered grievous bodily harm. The same friend made a Facebook post and lied about the whole incident. THE SIERRA LEONE POLICE CID released this friend on bail on the grounds of his human rights but today Onie is laid in the cemetery, his right to LIFE and every other fundamental human right he was enjoying were infringed upon. Since his release from police custody, the friend and his cohort of comedians and bloggers have been engaged in mocking the bereaved family unabatedly. This is a double jeopardy for the mom who is battling with health challenges and the entire family.

This means more young people in tertiary institutions will be killed by friends and nothing will be done about it.

This is not the Sierra Leone the President Julius Maada Bio promised young people. WE DENY IT"
