Today is the anniversary of the death of Giovanni Bottesini, the 'Paganini of the Double Bass' born in Crema on 22 December 1821 🎻

We would like to remember and celebrate him with a quote from François Fétis
"Bottesini surpassed by a long way what all other double bass concert performers have managed up until today. The heavenly sound he drew from his instrument, the incredible surety with which he overcame any arduous difficulty, his sentimental, sensistive way of singing, all made him a great performer and demonstrate in him the most complete talent one could ever imagine. Thanks to the skill with which he could draw out his harmonics in all positions, Bottesini could compete, without losing, with the most able violinists.”

'Echo Arts Munich', based in the church of St. Antonius by the river Isar, it supports young artists and creative minds in arts & crafts. They also connect with leaders from various fields to offer thought-provoking courses and lectures. Since its inception in 2020, Echo Arts Munich has supported over 200 students worldwide by providing scholarships, instruments, and career consulting. Their aim is to help students find a way to succeed in their artistic journeys.

Belgium Cello Society

The Belgium Cello Society ASBL, led by cellist and Artistic Director Han Bin Yoon, promotes and supports cello playing in Belgium. In 2017, the renowned Queen Elisabeth Competition featured the cello for the first time which instantly propelled the instrument into the limelight in Belgium. With its rapidly growing popularity, the BCS enriches the Belgian music scene through activities like the biennial Brussels Cello Festival, Buchet International Cello Competition, and an annual season of concerts. It's masterclasses also attract international artists and young talents.

Once again, we are proud to support the 2024 Buchet International Cello Competition which will take place on 11-12 November and have been supporting this event since 2019.

Bottesini Competition (Concorso Bottesini)

The 'Bottesini Competition was founded in 1989 by Maestro Franco Petracchi and is held every 2 years. It is the premier worldwide competition for double bass players and celebrates Giovanni Bottesini's legacy.
By winning this prestigious competition musicians can link themselves to the Maestro himself. Its rigorous program ensures that only the best young talents participate.
From 1989 to 2019, seven editions have produced winners who now hold key roles in top international orchestras. As we head towards the 2024 edition, the Associazione Bottesini continues to honor Bottesini’s legacy with concerts, performances, and masterclasses, solidifying its importance in the world of double bass.
