Cinque anni fa, in un momento sicuramente meno pesante e drammatico, quando però stava per abbattersi su tutti noi l'inizio della catena di eventi nefasti che ci accompagna ormai da quattro anni, pubblicai questo album dedicato al mio carissimo amico Martino Caterina (che allora era all'inizio del suo percorso nella musica elettronica e da allora ha fatto passi da gigante). E' un lavoro piuttosto ostico, una raccolta di studi su tecniche non convenzionali di creazione e manipolazione del suono, ma ci sono affezionatissimo e nasconde al suo interno alcuni momenti molto buoni secondo me. Al contrario della maggior parte dei lavori che ho pubblicato sul mio bandcamp personale questo l'avevo messo a pagamento, oggi mi va di farlo girare ancora, quindi ho rimosso l'importo e ora è "name your price", cioè è gratuito ma se vuoi puoi lasciare una donazione. se ti va dacci un ascolto e magari fammi sapere che ne pensi! qualche lavoretto qui a Ipostasi - Laboratorio di Fonologia ;)
grande idea di Martino Caterina quella di utilizzare una barra per pensili della cucina per appendere il sintetizzatore, senza usare mensole o simili! tra questo e la nuova libreria sta finalmente diventando uno spazio creativo comodo ed efficiente. ci vorranno ancora un po' di modifiche ma siamo sulla strada giusta!

MIR is a word that can mean both "Peace" and "World". This is a collective effort where various artists associated with Elli Records expressed their rejection of war (all wars) in one way they find meaningful: sound and music.

This work is a concept album inspired by the figure of Hassan-i Sabbāh, leader of the Hashishin (from which the word “assassin” comes from), a Persian Ismailite sect. Around 1100 A.D. Hassan-i Sabbāh ruled the Hashishin from the fortress of Alamut, later crushed by the Mongols in their expansionist process.

This work is entirely fictional, meaning it is a very personal and non-historical vision of the encounter of East and West, a fantasy-like exploration of a very far spacetime and world view.

In popular culture Alamut was the center of what we can call now an “intelligence agency” who used to pursue its own agenda via espionage, blackmail, seduction and ultimately political murder. It is often said they used drugs (hashish and perhaps o***m) to lure and recruit new soldiers to which they gave a taste of the after life heaven of martyrs through intoxication. Marco Polo wrote about the court of Alamut in his travel diaries. In my case i came in contact for the first time with this cultural construct when i was a teenager via the work of American writer William S. Burroughs.

I imagined a fictional European character on a journey, from the town of Afyonkarahissar (actual Turkey) to Alamut (actual Iran), to meet the “Old Man of the Mountain”, as Hassan-i Sabbāh was also known. What’s the identity of the European man? What’s the motive of his travel? What is the content of the talk between the two men? We don’t know, we can only guess, there’s no answer.

These tracks were composed and performed implementing a number of different techniques, some acoustic instruments (bansuri, dan-moi, tambourine, tin whistle), analog-digital Eurorack modular synthesizer, the ER-301 sound computer and some very crude self-made Max for Live devices. As usual, all tracks are performed live with very basic editing, and are often based on mixer gestures on an old Allen & Heath GS3 24 tracks analog desk.

causa influenza killer non potrò suonare ne' il 27 ne' il 29, gli eventi ci sono lo stesso ( check Milano Modulare Live in 20100 NTWRK e Tramonto Volume 7.08 PM ) ma con altri artisti al posto mio. se non schiatto ci vediamo il 4 ottobre all'arci blob (grande rimpatriata)
