Q-Room Q-Room is a musical core for every kind of activity concerning electronic music.

The studio disposes of a huge collection of synthesizers, audio effects, dynamic processors, vocoders and midi controllers. Everything is interfaced to Pro Tools HD|6

Most of the equipment is controllable via midi so that every sound can instantly be recorded and processed by any effect or dynamic processor (hardware or plug-in) available in the studio. We offer technical support to artists, labe

ls and companies who may want to use our equipment to create albums, songs or even single sounds. You will be able to decide which devices you need consulting our equipment list besides having a meeting with us. The studio also hosts courses for all kind of activities around electronic music.

Look who I had the pleasure to meet in my hometown: Thomas Bangalter from Daft Punk

BTW Thomas just told me that he is not on any social… just in case you’re following (or befriended with) what you think is his account

It has been a pleasure to spend some time in the mountains of my area with Jürgen Michaelis of Jomox.de and his girlfriend Maike. A short visit to the studio was also planned.

Metasonix S1000 Wretch Machine

Semi-modular Vacuum Tube Synthesizer

The S-1000 has 11 glowing vacuum/gas tubes embedded in the panel. The most impressive is the large 6AL7 tube dating back to 1940s FM tuners.
It possesses a two-part green 'magic-eye' bar display that simultaneously represents the outputs of the LFOs and envelopes. Using the lower part of the display, envelope levels are shown whilst each upper half pulses in time to an LFO's frequency
The remaining tubes are smaller and vary in shape according to the particular tube used; they also glow a seductive orange, which is mighty impressive in the dark.
The Wretch Machine features two VCOs, a waveshaper, a multi-mode filter and VCA, with dual LFOs and two simple envelopes as modulation sources. It also features modulation buses and a joystick controller. The S1000 takes the semi-modular approach, meaning that its internal connections for signal flow and modulation can be overridden by the patch points that run along the bottom of the unit.
Each VCO is voiced from thyratron tubes that offer three waveforms: an imperfect sawtooth; 'squarer' (the sawtooth clipped via a vacuum tube triode); and 'sub-oct'. The sub-octave is the result of feeding the sawtooth wave through a primitive frequency divider made of neon lamps.
The multi-mode filter is a strange beast derived from the Metasonix TM6 pedal. Adjusting filter tuning produces not a standard filter sweep but a quality reminiscent of swirling gravel around a bucket with a stick. The continuous Filter Type control sweeps smoothly through a bass-only response through low-pass and eventually to band-pass.
