Read the fine print. In Lee's upcoming book "Lee Quinones: Fifty Years of New York City Subway Graffiti Art and Beyond" the captions describe Lee's early work on the New York City MTA system.
A whole car is a term created by the architects of the subway graffiti movement. It's a 52 ft x 7 ft mural that runs on an entire subway car.
Lee made over 120 whole subway cars over a decade long campaign, and is responsible for the first running whole train, made up of 10 whole cars.
While significant documentation exists, not all of Lee's whole cars were photographed. While some works were immediately buffed, others ran for several years.
For those familiar with the New York City subway system, Lee worked predominantly on the IRT #5s, but also made work on the BMT line.
The book is now available on bookshop.org and uk.bookshop.org.

Donne quasi in sospeso, in divenire, costantemente in viaggio, fisico e dell’anima.
Le donne raccontate da Sabal-Bruce sono raccolte nella sua prima monografia, “After the moon” pubblicata da Damiani, che trovate qui: https://www.damianibooks.com/en/products/6208813
How is the female body represented in fashion?
Chilean photographer Sebastian Sabal-Bruce has developed his own unique visual sensitivity to women over the years, stemming from his multicultural background and his passion for theater and art.
He rejects classical representation in fashion and instead, through his photographs, attempts to tell stories filled with silence, contemplation, and melancholy.
His women are almost suspended, in a state of becoming, constantly on a journey, both physically and spiritually.
The women depicted by Sabal-Bruce are gathered in his first monograph, 'After the Moon,' published by Damiani.
You can meet the artist for the first book signings in April: all information available from the link in bio.

“To be a Black cowboy is a defiant declaration of self. Going against conventional expectations of Black and White culture requires confidence and a sureness of one’s truth.”
Ivan McClellan for @colossal
Few images capture the essence of the American West like that of a cowboy riding across endless prairies. Yet, the history of African American cowboys remains lesser known, often overshadowed by discriminatory notions that equate cowboy and rodeo culture with a narrow stereotype.
Today, we have the honor of being part of a project aimed at shining a light on Black rodeo culture, with the debut book by photographer Ivan McClellan, 'Eight Seconds: Black Rodeo Culture.' This captivating work offers a heartfelt and stirring glimpse into the lives of these athletes, not just in the arena but also on their ranches with their families.
The book is available on the Damiani website, link in bio.

All of us have kept a journal at some point in our lives, entrusting it with dreams and hopes, memories, secrets, passions, and loves.
Perhaps your journals got lost in a move, maybe you threw them away, but today we present to you a publication that stems from some very special journals, those of Tony Caramanico, surfer, artist, and world traveler.
‘Montauk Surf Journals' is the volume that gathers 60 years of Tony Caramanico's journals, which are little works of art, narratives that combine words, images, and magazine clippings telling the life of someone who has been constantly immersed in the world of surfing, always embracing the freedom to be oneself and to live in the present moment.
From catching the first wave in 1963, to the crucial meeting with photographer Peter Beard, to entire days spent searching for the perfect wave, everything comes to life in the visionary compositions that shine on the pages of this book.
'Montauk Surf Journals', introduced by a foreword from surfer and editor Zack Raffin, is available for pre-order on the damianibooks.com website.

Eight endless seconds is the time for which cowboys must stay on a bull during a rodeo. And the more the animal bucks, the higher the score.
American photographer Ivan McClellan discovered the Black cowboy community over seven years ago when he was first invited to a Black rodeo by a filmmaker named Charles Perry.
That moment was almost an epiphany for him: seeing hundreds of men and women on horseback, united by the same passion and ideas, changed and improved his perception of the places he lived, realizing they were a source of redemption and freedom.
Since then, Ivan McClellan has been documenting the lives of Black cowboys not only during rodeos but also on their farms and ranches, with an affectionate, attentive, and excited eye that reveals through the lens of his camera a world that speaks of sport but also of love for their land, traditions, and exchanges between generations.
"Eight Seconds: Black Rodeo Culture" is the volume, published by Damiani, that gathers his experience alongside Black cowboys, curated by journalist Sara Rosen, designed by @work_play and enriched by an introduction written by Charles Sampson, the first African American cowboy to win a professional rodeo world championship.
You can pre-order it on the damianibooks.com website for shipments in Europe or on Artbook.com for shipments in the United States.

We're proud to present another of our spring releases, ‘This is My Life I'm Talking About’ by Danny Lyon, a picaresque memoir written from the heart of the revolutionary twentieth century by one of its most important witnesses, collecting never-before-published images.
Self-taught and fueled by his dual passions for social change and photography, Danny Lyon's powerful work immerses viewers in the vibrant cultures and communities he captures.
Known for series such as ‘Bikeriders’ and ‘Conversations with the Dead,’ Lyon's innovative approach to photo books integrates images with diverse text elements to create a compelling narrative.
‘Bikeriders’ offers a raw and authentic glimpse into the world of the Chicago Outlaw Motorcycle Club, reflecting Lyon's four-year intimate involvement with the group, and it's going to be transposed into a movie written and directed by Jeff Nichols, out in June 2024.
Similarly, ‘Conversations with the Dead’ delves deep into the Texas prison system and showcases his innovative approach to photo books. Seamlessly blending images with interviews, letters, and fictional excerpts, Lyon creates a multifaceted portrait of life behind bars.
After establishing new models for both documentary photography and the photo book, Danny Lyon became an influential documentary filmmaker, winning numerous honors and awards in both fields.
Over the course of his career, he has published more than 20 books of photography and has been the subject of more than fifty solo exhibitions.
Check out the link in the bio for 'This is My Life I'm Talking About' and all the other spring releases.

We are saddened to learn of the passing of Inge Bondi, author, photography teacher, and member of Magnum Photos from 1950 to 1970, where she served as the Editor of Exhibitions, Special Projects, and Advertising.
We are honored to have had the opportunity to work with her on the project for the book "Ernst Haas: Letters & Stories," which focuses on the photographer and her dear friend and colleague Ernst Haas (1921-1986), the renowned Austrian photographer whom she had met in 1951 at Magnum's offices in New York.
We would like to pay tribute to her with this video, extracted from an interview conducted with Inge Bondi in June 2023 by Rixt Bosma, an independent art historian and curator. In this interview, she shares a touching memory of her friend Ernst Haas.

To say that I'm excited about my first monograph "Fifty Years of New York Graffiti Art and Beyond" is an understatement. Fifty years ago in 1974 I picked up my first spray paint can and embarked on a mission with a vision in a world that was a very different place back then.
How far has the arc of this art shifted from its controversial, complicated background to the forefront of art history over the course of five decades?
Text written by artists, curators, and friends is paired with imagery of my work and never-seen-before ephemera from my archives.
In stores this spring, available for pre-order on Damiani's website.

Before his wildly successful work in music—as frontman of the 1990s international band R.E.M.—Michael Stipe was a visual arts student at the University of Georgia in Athens. After the band dissolved in 2011, Stipe returned to his first love: generating illustrations, photography and sculptures.
In his newfound artistic research, Stipe is particularly fascinated by portraiture.
We are very proud to have accompanied this artist on his artistic journey over the past few years and to have published his four photographic monographs.
‘Even the birds gave pause’ is his fourth volume after ‘Volume 1’ (2018), ‘Our Interference Time: a visual record’ (2019) and ‘Michael Stipe’ (2021), all of them published by Damiani.
Here's how this incredible volume, already available for pre-order Damiani's website, got printed.
You can find it also in a Collector’s Edition with a darkroom print signed and numbered by Michael Stipe: 'Self portrait as Brancusi, in grieving'. The photograph was printed in 2023 in a limited edition of 30 copies.
The volume is published in conjunction with Stipe’s solo exhibition of his artwork at the ICA Milano (December 12, 2023 - March 16, 2024).
