This week the Silo hosts three lovely people from across the water; , , and . They trekked all the way here to create yet more collaborated magic chirps n squeaks, beats and melody. So nice to have them join us at the edge of the Northern winter ♥️🔥

The phono lab continues to operate in these cold winter nights! We just finished a run of LPs for Icelandic Artist Bjarn! We are seeing more and more how much we need the variable pitch control system. With moderate to heavy bass and sub-bass we are having to be very careful that grooves don't touch or even worse, overcut. And on an LP it is a battle for real estate on the surface. The variable pitch will adjust the distance between adjacent grooves as we cut the music, so louder parts will be given more space while quiet passages can cut fine with closer grooves.

We are really excited to see the very limited edition EP from Tom Vamos (IRL/Liverpool) now available for pre-order on his bandcamp page! Recorded to 4-track cassette in a kitchen in Liverpool, then mixed here and cut to vinyl all fully analog. He then hand printed all the sleeves with each being unique. We will soon have a few stocked in our micro-vinyl-store here in Stöðvarfjörður.
He's doing a release show on 22nd November at Round the Corner in Liverpool with support from The Welcomed Addition, Again Again, and Rob Clarke.

It's not often these days that we find time to do fun audio experiments, but last weekend I hung up this kitchen extractor hood inside a massive old radio transmitter cabinet. After being rather impressed by the immense reverb from this mundane steel box the plan now is to install it as one of Studio Silo's reverb devices, alongside our EMT plates and spring reverbs. It actually sounds really impressive on certain sources, with .audio exciters to input the sound and piezo discs for reverb recovery. Gotta figure out a way of varying the decay time as the tail right now can be as long as ten seconds (!). Any ideas most welcome 😁

We have the pleasure of recording Svanur Vilbergsson and Berta Dröfn this weekend in our Studio, with icelandic art songs both old and new, with Svanur doing all arrangements as none of these songs have ever been recorded with guitar. Bernskuslóð is both the name of the project and of one composition by Svanur himself that is part of the 14 pieces. Beautiful stuff!

Whether it be analog or digital recording, we love both and blend them easily. Get in touch! We are now officially capable and willing to cut records for you! After a long process of both machine restoration and learning we can now cut both 7 inch and 12 inch records in small numbers, with outstanding sound quality. We can cut from digital files or analog tape. Please get in touch if you want to know more! Shipping possible for those outside of iceland.

First custom-shaped records getting cut last night here at the phono lab! We can laser-cut any shape you like, as long as there is still enough room for your music :). This limited run is the latest single Sumarið from Steinþór Máni (age 9) and his brother Úlfar (age 13). It also dropped on streaming platforms last night ♥️🔥. Brilliant to be putting such an "old" medium in such young hands eh!

Our beautiful little (big!) pair of EMT plate reverbs here at . The one on the left is solid-state, built in 1970. It was donated to us during the studio build by the wonderful folks at Angel Studios, London. I can never be grateful enough to who hired a van and drove it all the way to the freight ferry in Hull, to send it on its 2-week voyage to Iceland...
The second one was found here in Iceland, in a sometimes flooding basement. Built in 1959 and mono, It's amp was missing and I bought it cheap. Found a tube amp in Italy with thanks to my friend Pietro ♥️. began the rewiring during his stay with us, and I must finish it soon!
These are some of our most prized pieces and they get used on every record that is made here. And the fact that they came to us with such generous goodwill and kindness is something I cherish and am very grateful for ♥️. I have plenty more stories like this, so will post them here in due course 😍
