We at Heavy Light wish to express our deep concern and disappointment regarding the recent decision to lift the ban on whaling in Iceland. As a company thats been in the Icelandic film and television industry for nearly 20 years, we feel compelled to voice our concerns about the potential consequences of this decision.
Whaling not only poses a significant threat to marine life and the delicate balance of our oceans but also reflects poorly on our nation's commitment to environmental conservation and ethical practices. As members of the Icelandic film community we feel a profound sense of responsibility for the image and values of our country, and we find it regrettable that this decision may stain our reputation on a global scale.
The film and television industry in Iceland has thrived over the years, attracting esteemed projects and talent from around the world, including collaborations with prominent networks such as HBO and Netflix to name a few.
This industry has not only contributed to our country's economy but has also showcased the beauty and unique landscapes of Iceland to a global audience.
We sincerely hope that the Icelandic government reconsiders its decision on whaling and reinstates a ban on this practice. Such a move would not only preserve the reputation of our nation as a responsible guardian of the environment but also ensure the continued growth and success of our thriving film business.
We believe in taking a stand against whaling to contribute to a brighter, more sustainable future for both our industry and our natural world.
Sincerely,
Siggi Bahama
