On the 9th of April WIFT.is (Women in Film and Television) would like to invite filmmakers and decision-makers of all genders to a drink and celebrate the past 18 years of Wift in Iceland within the frame of Stockfish's 10th anniversary on the 9th of April. Iceland is at the forefront of gender equality worldwide but unfortunately the same does not go for the Icelandic film industry. In a perfect world, there would be no need for Wift. Join Wift at this informal reception to discuss the next steps towards equality and inclusion. When can we finally say goodbye to Wift and simply focus on making films?

WIFT (Félag Kvenna í Kvikmyndum og Sjónvarpi - Women in Film and Television) á Íslandi býður kvikmyndagerðarfólki af öllum kynjum í drykk 9. apríl til þess að skála fyrir starfi félagsins síðastliðin átján ár og fagna um leið 10 ára afmæli Stockfish. Ísland er í fararbroddi í jafnréttismálum á heimsvísu en því miður á það sama ekki við um kvikmyndaiðnaðinn hér á landi. Í hinum fullkomna heimi væri engin þörf á félagsskap eins og WIFT. Velkomin öll á þennan óformlega viðburð til skrafs og ráðagera um næstu skref í átt að fullu jafnrétti og inngildingu. Hvenær getum við loks kvatt WIFT og farið að einbeita okkur að kvikmyndagerð?

The Northern Wave Film Festival retires!
We want to thank all the directors who had their films at the festival, all the musicians who played and showed their videos. Everyone who’s ever been on the jury, all the staff and volunteers and last but not least we want to thank the Culture Council of West of Iceland who are the reason this festival started in the first place.

The festival was celebrated for 7 years in Grundarfjörður and for 7 years at the wonderful The Freezer in Rif . We want to send special thanks to Grundarfjörður and Snæfellsbær for hosting the festival.

Meet the participants! The Nordic Girls Shoot Workshop consists of a two days networking and training program with mentors from all the Nordic countries. Participants and mentors are then invited to attend screenings, concerts and masterclass at the Northern Wave International Film Festival.

The program pays for flights, food and accommodation for all selected participants during the workshop and the festival.

The workshop includes:
- Pitch training
- Workgroups discussing projects
- Private sessions with Nordic mentors

Meet the jury! Many thanks to the wonderful Einar Snorri, Ottó and Nanna, who worked hard selecting the winners for this fourteenth edition of Northern Wave.

Ottó Geir Borg is an independent script writer with over fifteen years of experience in the Icelandic film industry and is Iceland’s script guru. He’s written and developed numerous Icelandic and international feature films, tv series and documentaries. Due to his work at the Icelandic Film Center, he did not take part in selecting the winner of the Icelandic films.

Nanna Frank Rasmussen is the Chair of the Danish Film Critics Association, as well as a film critic at Politiken Denmark and former chair of WIFT Denmark.

Einar Snorri is known for his unique visual style and has a keen eye for aesthetics, he has shot photographs, as a part of The Snorri Brothers duo, for magazines such as Spin, Rolling Stone, Dazed & Confused, Interview, working with artists such as Green Day, Wu-Tang Clan, Soundgarden, Björk, Busta Rhymes, The Chemical Brothers, Spice Girls and Gwen Stefani.

🏆 You could be a jury member too... as it is the audience that will select the winner of the Music Video!

🏊‍♂️ 10 - 12 pm Kids Films in the public pool of Ólafsvís. International short films for kids.

✂️ 1 - 2 pm Poster workshop for kids. A crafting station is available all weekend in the Freezer where kids can make their own movie posters.

🎥 2:30 - 4:30 Short Film Class for kids aged 9-11 with Þórey Mjallhvít. We will create stories, act and have fun. The kids will film their stories using their own phones. We recommend bringing a fully charged cell phone with an editing app, e.g. YouCut for Android or iMovie for iPhone. Register by contacting: [email protected]

W weekend 11-13 listopada będzie miał miejsce międzynarodowy festiwal filmowy Northern Wave. Na sobotę 12 listopada planowany jest specjalny program dla dzieci:

🏊‍♂️ 10.00 - 12.00 Kino dziecięce w basenie w Ólafsvíku. Wyświetlane będą filmy krótkometrażowe z różnych stron świata przeznaczone dla dzieci.

✂️ 13.00 - 14.00 Zajęcia kreatywne dla dzieci z tworzenia plakatów. Przez cały weekend w Chłodni (Frystiklefi) działał będzie specjalny kącik rzemieślniczy, w którym dzieci będą mogły tworzyć swoje własne plakaty filmowe.

🎥 14.30 - 16.30 Warsztaty tworzenia filmów krótkometrażowych dla dzieci w wieku 9-11 lat pod kierownictwem Þórey Mjallhvít.

Będziemy wspólnie wymyślać historie, bawić się i ciekawie spędzać czas. Udział w warsztatach jest bezpłatny. Uczestnicy warsztatów nagrywać będą filmy przy użyciu własnych telefonów, dlatego wskazane jest, by młodzi adepci sztuki filmowej zjawili się z w pełni naładowanym telefonem, na którym będzie zawczasu zainstalowany program do edycji - na przykład YouCut na telefony z Androidem lub Imovie na iPhone'a. This year, The Northern Wave Festival honours Einar Snorri of Snorri Bros. Einar Snorri is known for his unique visual style and has a keen eye for aesthetics, he has shot photographs, as a part of The Snorri Brothers duo, for magazines such as Spin, Rolling Stone, Dazed & Confused, Interview, working with artists such as Green Day, The Fugees, Soundgarden, Björk, DJ Shadow, The Roots, and Michael Stipe. Einar Snorri has shot and directed commercials and music videos both in Iceland and the U.S. in partnership with Eiður Snorri for international bands like R.E.M. and Icelandic bands such as GusGus, Högni, Krummi to name a few.

Einar Snorri will be giving a insight into his carrier on Saturday the 12th of November at the Freezer, where he will show a short documentary about his pioneering invention The Snorri Cam, featured in countless music videos and Hollywood films (Pi, Requiem for a dream, Armageddon etc.).

Hear the icy grass crackle underfoot as the winter sun lights up our short days, politely stepping away early in the evening, giving us all the time we want for our films in the Freezer.
