Kodachadri is a mountain peak located in the Western Ghats of Karnataka, India. While it is a popular trekking destination, there are some interesting facts about Kodachadri that are not very well known.
- The name Kodachadri is derived from two words in the local language, "Kodacha" which means hill and "Adri" which means forehead. Therefore, Kodachadri means "Forehead of the Hill."
- It is believed that Adi Shankaracharya, the famous Hindu philosopher, visited Kodachadri and meditated here in a cave known as Sarvajna Peetha.
- Kodachadri is home to the Mookambika Wildlife Sanctuary, which is home to a variety of flora and fauna including tigers, leopards, and elephants.
- The Hidlumane Falls, located near Kodachadri, is one of the tallest waterfalls in India with a height of around 500 feet.
- There is a temple dedicated to Goddess Mookambika located at the base of Kodachadri hill. It is believed that the temple is more than 1200 years old.
- According to legend, the Pandavas from the Hindu epic Mahabharata, visited Kodachadri during their exile and the hill served as a hiding place for them.
- Kodachadri is also known for its biodiversity and is home to many rare and endemic species of plants and animals.
- The peak of Kodachadri offers stunning views of the surrounding hills and valleys, especially during sunrise and sunset.
