My Vagina My Honour: Rape Culture In India
Rape is the fourth most common crime against women in India. And a lot of these rape cases go unnoticed because people hide under the blanket of marital rape and rape within their own families or relatives.
In a country where the children are taught wrong, girls are being taught that they are the ones that invite such attention and they are also to be blamed for the rapes that happen, it should be made clear to us that sex isn’t a myth and that our body isn’t anyone’s honour, it is OUR honour.
Instead of feeling embarassed about it, people should raise their voices and speak up against rape. We need to teach people about sex, sexual desires and consent because in India, it is a taboo to talk about sex and sex-related things.
"It isn’t my moral responsibility to make sure that you don’t get triggered by me, it is your moral responsibility as a member of the civil society to make sure that you don’t get triggered by me," says Kritika Sahu, a journalist from The Kalki Media.
