An accident occurred on the midnight of 22nd January on a bridge near Rajamahendravaram when a private bus overturned, killing a woman from Visakhapatnam on the spot, Meanwhile, 28 others suffered injuries.

The deceased was identified as Homini, a 21-year-old from Vizag, who was traveling with her sister to Hyderabad for an interview. Homini sustained a severe head injury and passed away.

On the other hand, the injured were unattended for over an hour as the police and rescue teams were not able to reach the spot immediately. Most of the victims are said to be from Visakhapatnam and Annavaram. They were later shifted to Rajamahendravam GGH, with two of the wounded passengers in critical condition.

As for the cause of the accident, reports state that the bus was traveling to Hyderabad when the driver lost control while attempting to avoid a two-wheeler coming from the opposite direction.

On 22 January 2025, some girls escaped a juvenile home in Vizag by jumping the boundary wall and protested on the road alleging facing harassment by the home’s staff. The girls said that they are forced to take sleeping pills and their parents were not allowed to visit them.

The girls appealed tp the City Police Commissioner, raising slogans and asking for justice. The juvenile home’s superintendent, Sunita, responded to the incident and stated that the girls were being treated for mental health issues. She also stated that the home accommodates 60 children at present, and they are facing problems with five girls from Hyderabad, Srikakulam, Krishna, East Godavari, and West Godavari. In response to the protest, the home’s staff approached the Arilova Police.

Meanwhile, State Home Minister Vangalapudi Anitha spoke with District Collector M.N. Harendhira Prasad and City Police Commissioner Shankhabrata Bagchi to inquire about the incident.

The Minister has set up a committee led by a woman police official, Tehsildar, to talk to the girls. She also directed the Visakhapatnam Collector to submit a comprehensive report on the issue, warning that stern action would be taken should the allegations prove to be true.

On January 21, two girls were allegedly sexually assaulted in Vizag under separate incidents.
The police reported that a 49-year-old man allegedly sexually assaulted a 11 year old physically challenged girl in the fourth ward of the GVMC when she was alone at home. Her parents were at work as daily wage earners when the accused had committed the crime. Her neighbours reported the incident to her parents after the girl raised an alarm. The accused is arrested and the police have registered a case. The girl was sent to KGH for medical examination.
Another incident occurred at Madhurawada in Visakhapatnam, where a 30-year-old a married man and a cloth store owner at Bakkannapalem allegedly sexually assaulted a 16 year old girl.
Reports state the accused befriended the girl and her brother.
On January 21, the girl, her brother, the accused and his brother-in-law booked a room at a hotel in Rushikonda. The accused committed the crime when his brother-in-law and the girl’s brother stepped out of the room to get food.
A complaint was lodged after the girl informed her parents when she returned home. The police have registered a POCSO case against the accused and arrested him and investigation is ongoing.

25 IAS Officers Transferred, Including The GVMC Commissioner.
The Commissioner of GVMC P Sampath Kumar has been transferred to the role of Commissioner and Director of Municipal Administration, just after six months in his positions.
With the decision taken on 20 January night, no one was appointed in his place. This transfer, including 25 IAS officers, has become the topic of conversion among the official circles in the city.
His tenure saw the developments for the city such as preparing a plan for the total ban of single use plastic in the city. GVMC received several awards for its efficiency during his tenure.
V Abhishek, Project Officer of Integrated Tribal Development Agency (ITDA), Paderu, Alluri Sitharama Raju district is also among the transferred IAS officers, posted as the Project Administrator, Polavaram (RR).

The Visakhapatnam Steel Plant is set to receive a Rs 11,500-crore package from the Centre, approved by the Union Cabinet on 16 January. This decision, expected to be announced officially soon, aims to rescue the cash-strapped steel giant.

VMRDA Chairman Pranav Gopal hailed the move as a testament to the Alliance government’s commitment. He thanked Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, Deputy CM K. Pawan Kalyan, and Minister Nara Lokesh for their efforts.

In a devastating incident, a five-year-old girl tragically lost her life after being struck by a car at an apartment complex in Gajuwaka, Visakhapatnam, on January 15.

Reports indicate that a couple from Sujathanagar, near Pendurthi, had visited their relative's home in Gajuwaka to celebrate the Sankranti festival, bringing their daughter, Larini, along. The accident occurred while the young girl was playing in the apartment’s cellar.

Larini was immediately taken to KIMS hospital in Sheelanagar, where she was pronounced dead on arrival by doctors.

Authorities suggest that the accident was caused by reckless driving by a pharmaceutical company employee behind the wheel.

Six people, including three women from Visakhapatnam, lost their lives, and over 40 others were injured in a stampede at the token distribution counters for Vaikuntha Dwara Sarvadarshan in Tirupati on the night of January 8.

The TTD had announced that tokens would be issued starting early January 9, prompting thousands of devotees to gather at the counters.

Unable to manage the overwhelming crowd, the police struggled to maintain order.

In an attempt to ease the chaos, authorities decided to open the counters ahead of schedule.

However, as the crowd began to push and shove, the situation spiraled into a deadly stampede.
