Remembering Diwan Sri M Visvesvaraya on his 160th birth anniversary.

Sir Mokshagondam Visvesvaraya, popularly known as Sir MV was an Indian civil engineer and statesman and the 19th Diwan of Mysore, who served from 1912 to 1919. He received India's highest honour, the Bharat Ratna, in 1955. He was knighted as a Knight Commander of the British Indian Empire (KCIE) by King George V for his contributions to the public good. 15 September is celebrated as Engineer's Day in India, Sri Lanka and Tanzania in his memory. He is held in high regard as a pre-eminent engineer of India.

WORLD TIGER DAY.

Bandipur National Park and Tiger Reserve is located in Chamarajanagar district of Karnataka, was designated as a reserve forest in 1931 and upgraded as a tiger reserve in 1973. It was Maharaja Sri Jayachamaraja Wadiyar, who was a keen wildlife enthusiast, worked harder to protect the wildlife and forests. The Eastern region comprises major forest areas and scrub jungles. This portion is the best way to spot birds and carnivorous animals.

His Highness was the Chairman of the Central Board of Wild Life Preservation and in that capacity he recommended many measures to preserve wild life so that the species which were very valuable and rare do not become extinct.

He stated in his Speech on 1-12-1952:

"It must never be forgotten that these gifts of nature, once destroyed can never be restored by all the ingenuity of the present age."

His Highness has further stated that in the days of Yore, the Rulers of the Mysore State were responsible for preserving the animals and with the unfurling of the scroll of Indian History.

Greetings on the auspicious occasion of Sri Chamundeshwari Vardhanti.

H.H (Mummadi) Krishnaraja Wadiyar III was anointed Maharaja of Mysore in 1799 C.E. During his time as Maharaja the arts, crafts, culture and Dharmic Traditions of the mighty Deccan Empires of Yore were reinvigorated. Much of the traditional art forms and religious heritage of the modern state of Karnataka owes its existence to him. He actively patronised hundreds of temples and revived many such ancient centers of culture.

The Chamundeshwari Temple in Mysore was also, and especially, given immense contributions. Maharaja repaired the shrine in 1827 A.D and built the present beautiful tower at the entrance. Blessed by the Goddess, Krishnaraja Wadiyar, an ardent devotee of the mother Goddess, presented' Simha-vahana' and other Vahana cars and jewels of value to the temple. The cars/Vahanas are used even now for processions on special religious occasions.

The Vardhanti, popularly called Arnmanavara Vardhanthi is observed on the Revathi nakshathra day of Krishna Paksha in the month of Aashada. Though, it is observed as the birthday celebrations of Goddess, in real sense it marks the day when Maharaja Krishnaraja wadiyar Ill installed a "Utsava Murthy".

International Yoga Day 2020.

There is a continuous record of involvement and patronage of Yoga at the Mysore Palace for over 200 years. The oldest records found are in the Sritattvanidhi, the most complete document in the History of Yoga Asanas found to-date. This work was compiled by Maharaja Mummadi Krishnaraja Wadiyar himself and is translated with the illustrations.

The interests and efforts of Maharaja Nalwadi Krishnaraja Wadiyar in installing Sri Krishnamacariar at the Palace and in the Yoga Shala, teaching Members of the Royal Family and the Public at large through the Royal Pathasala was instrumental in reviving Yoga as a discipline for healthy lifestyle.

That Yoga System, a synthesis of many different schools of exercise, some almost defunct, has spread over the entire World through its primary preceptors Krishnamacariar, B.K.S. lyengar and Pattabhi Jois. It is gratifying to look back at the farsightedness of Mysore Wadiyars and know that, through them, countless students of Yoga, all over the World, in every single country, have been able to share in the benefits and secrets of Yoga.

ನಾಡಾಳಿದ ಮಹಾಸ್ವಾಮಿ ಶ್ರೀಮನ್ ಮಹಾರಾಜ ನಾಲ್ವಡಿ ಕೃಷ್ಣರಾಜ ಒಡೆಯರವರ 136ನೇ ಜನ್ಮದಿನೋತ್ಸವದಂದು ಅವರನ್ನು ಸ್ಮರಿಸುತ್ತಿದ್ದೇವೆ.
4th June, 1884.
The smile of the newborn prince lit up a hundred faces in the Palace of Mysore. The unassuming smile that would later light up not only the streets of Mysore, but also the lives of millions of His subjects. Unparalleled in wisdom, he was known as the most enlightened of all Princes in British India, and his state praised to have the best administration that one could fathom. Kind and secular, he was revered by one and all.

A visionary administrator, his reign saw the rise of many an industry in the state, generating revenues that outnumbered any other state of his day. His dasara was labeled a visual spectacle and his Palace, a one described in fairy tales. Among the richest of men in the world, His Highness' richest possession was his spiritual genius. His prowess as a philosopher was something that not many possessed.

Little of his Ramarajya may be left for us to see, but it can safely be said that it was on the foundations laid by him, that today's Karnataka has built a towering image upon. Remembering that Noble son of Chamundeshwari on his 136th birth anniversary.

On this day celebrating Women, a little known anecdote that highlights the role of Maharani Devajammanni avaru in the history of Mysore.

Shortly following the death of Sriman Maharaja Mummadi Avaru, The Royal Family clashed with the British Government when the latter wished to postpone the coronation till the young Chamaraja Wadiyar X attained adulthood.

That meant that there would be no King to conduct the unbroken tradition of Dasara that year, that caused quite a stir among locals and the close circles of the Palace.

Wary of the intentions of the Queen Devajammanni avaru, British tried to curb every route of help she could find. The undeterred Queen, however, did everything she could including a letter to Queen Victoria putting across her views and concerns.

Although the first few days of Dasara passed by without a King, the efforts of Devajammanni Avaru bore fruit when the British were finally directed to side by the royal family and allow the coronation to take place and avert a possible political commotion.

Indeed, the 'lowly educated Queen behind the purdah' ensured the responsibility she was entrusted with was carried out without any compromise.

“...there are three jewels in Mysore's history, who have struggled for the country's good. Maharani Lakshamanni, Maharani Sitavilasa Sannidhana, and Maharani Vani Vilasa Sannidhana [Kempa Nanjammani].... For the contributions they have made, their names deserve to be written in golden letters…”

Maharani Kempa Nanjammani Vani Vilasa Sannidhana, wife of H.H Maharaja Chamaraja Wadiyar X, and mother of H.H Maharaja Krishnaraja Wadiyar IV and H.H The Yuvaraja Kanteerava Narasimharaja Wadiyar occupies as high a place as any in the annals of Mysore history. Her contributions to the citizenry, in her roles of Maharani-regent and as mother of Nalwadi Krishnaraja Wadiyar, one of the most illustrious rulers of India, is unparalleled.

After the death of he husband, The Maharaja, Sri Chamaraja Wadiyar X, in the year 1894, Maharani Kempananjammanni was nominated as Maharani-regent, a position she held for eight tough years [1895-1902] and serving the state with great fortitude during a time of great distress. She earned the respect of one and all for the fabulous way she held fort.
During her reign progress in all fields resulted from their efficient administration and beatified the entire citizenry. Generation of electricity from river Cauvery, promoting Indian Institute of Science, construction of Mari Kanave valley anicut ( Vani Vilas Sagara), construction of the new palace, extension of new localities in Mysore, water supply through pipes and laying of foundation stone of Victoria Hospital in Bangalore were enough testimony.

Maharani Kempananjamanni was a great believer in women's education and under her patronage Maharani's College got due attention and patronage.

When Nalwadi Krishnaraja Wadiyar came of age, it was time for her to retire. On 8.8.1902, he ascended the throne that marked the end of memorable regency and the beginning of what was to become Mysore's 'golden era', an era that came to be known by the encomium 'Ramarajya'.

Dasara 2019

ಜಗನ್ಮಾತೆ ಶ್ರೀ ಚಾಮುಂಡೇಶ್ವರಿದೇವಿಯ ಅನುಗ್ರಹದಿಂದ ಮೈಸೂರು ಅರಮನೆಯಲ್ಲಿ 2019ನೇ ಸಾಲಿನ ದಸರಾ ಮಹೋತ್ಸವವನ್ನು ಯಶಸ್ವಿಯಾಗಿ ಸಂಪನ್ನಗೊಳಿಸಲಾಯಿತು. ರಾಜಮಾತೆ ಪ್ರಮೋದ ದೇವಿ ಒಡೆಯರವರ ನೇತೃತ್ವದಲ್ಲಿ ಶ್ರೀಮನ್ ಮಹಾರಾಜಾ ಯದುವೀರ್ ಕೃಷ್ಣದತ್ತ ಚಾಮರಾಜ ಒಡೆಯರವರು ನೆರವೇರಿಸಿದ ದಸರಾ ಮಹೋತ್ಸವವು ಗತಕಾಲದ ವೈಭವವನ್ನು ಮರುಕಳಿಸುವಂತೆ ಮಾಡಿತು. ಅರಮನೆಯ ದಸರಾ ಖಾಸಗಿಯಾಗಿದ್ದರೂ ಸಹ ಆಚರಣೆಗಳು ಅದರದ್ದೇ ಆದ ಮಹತ್ವವನ್ನು ಹೊಂದಿವೆ. ಪೌರಾಣಿಕ ಚಿನ್ನದ ಸಿಂಹಾಸನದ ಮೇಲೆ ಮಹಾಸ್ವಾಮಿಯವರು ಕುಳಿತು ನಡೆಸಿಕೊಡುವ ದರ್ಬಾರ್ ಮೈಸೂರು ಸಂಸ್ಥಾನದ ಭವ್ಯತೆಯನ್ನು ಸಾರುತ್ತದೆ. ಅರಮನೆಯ ಯಾವುದೇ ಆಚರಣೆಗಳಿಗೆ ಧಕ್ಕೆಯಾಗದಂತೆ ಆಸ್ಥಾನದ ಪುರೋಹಿತರು ಮತ್ತು ವಿದ್ವಾಂಸರುಗಳಿಂದ ನಾಡದೇವತೆಯಾದ ಶ್ರೀ ಚಾಮುಂಡೇಶ್ವರಿ ಅಮ್ಮನವರಿಗೆ ಒಂಬತ್ತು ದಿನ ಸೇವೆ ಸಲ್ಲಿಸಲಾಗಿದೆ. ಈ ಶುಭ ಸಂದರ್ಭದಲ್ಲಿ ಜಗನ್ಮಾತೆಯಾದ ಶ್ರೀ ಚಾಮುಂಡೇಶ್ವರಿ ದೇವಿಯು ನಮ್ಮೆಲ್ಲರ ಪ್ರೀತಿಯ ರಾಜವಂಶಸ್ಥರಿಗೆ ನಾಡಿಗೆ ಹಾಗು ನಾಡಿನ ಸಮಸ್ತ ಜನತೆಗೆ ಸನ
