Biochemistry of tetracycline antibiotic drug in the biological system.
They are class of bacteriostatic antimicrobial produce by the bacteria streptomyces. Tetracycline also inhibit protein synthesis by binding to 30s ribosomal sub unit of bacteria cell. This binding prevent the attachment of amino- acyl transfer RNA (tRNA) to the acceptors site on the 50s ribosomal sub unit. Tetracycline readily pe*****te the bacteria cell membrane because of the presence of an energy-dependent of tetracycline transport system which is absent in mamallian cell. Tetracycline are also degrade in the liver and concentrated in the bile.
