*Heavy Rains In Himachal | Eight Buildings Collapse In Kullu*
SHIMLA, Aug 24: At least eight buildings that had developed cracks and were declared unsafe following recent rains collapsed in Anni area of Himachal Pradesh’s Kullu district on Thursday, throwing up large clouds of dust and debris There were no casualties.
The buildings housing shops, banks and other commercial establishments had developed cracks four-five days ago, Sub Divisional Magistrate (SDM), Anni, Naresh Verma, who was at the spot, said.
The buildings were declared unsafe and vacated recently, he said.
The assessment of damage is being done and some other unsafe buildings along the National Highway305 in Anni have also been vacated as a precautionary measure, the official added.
As many as 120 people have died in rain-related incidents in the state this month while a total of 238 people have died and 40 are still missing since the onset of monsoon in Himachal Pradesh on June 24.
Himachal saw three major spells of heavy rains this Monsoon. The first on July 9 and 10 led to large-scale destruction in Mandi and Kullu districts.
Shimla and Solan districts were hit during the second spell on August 14 and 15 and Shimla city suffered heavy damage in the third spell on Tuesday night.
Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu on Wednesday said that Rs 165.22 crore had been released to all the deputy commissioners and the line departments in the state for the restoration of damaged works.
He has claimed that the state has suffered losses of Rs 10,000 crore so far due to the heavy rains. (Agencies)

*Snow avalanche hits Ganderbal’s Baltal, no damage reported*
An avalanche has hit the Baltal area of central Kashmir's Ganderbal district, however, no loss of life or damage has been reported in the incident.
The local authorities have been alerted and are currently assessing the situation.
The area has been closed for the time being as a precautionary measure and the residents have been advised to stay indoors and not to venture out unnecessarily.
The authorities have also set up emergency helplines for people who may require assistance

December 28: Three unidentified militants have been killed in an encounter at Sidra area of Jammu district on Wednesday.
A senior police officer told that during firefight three militants have been killed, arms and ammunition have been also recovered. However identity of the militants is being ascertained.
Meanwhile searches are still going on at the encounter spot, the officer added.
Official sources told that militants were travelling in a truck which was intercepted by the security forces leading to a firefight. The driver of vehicle has fled from the spot.
Earlier, a gunfight broke out between militants and security forces in Sidra area.

MUMKIN: A Customized livelihood generation Scheme for the Youth of J&K
A customized livelihood generation scheme 'Mumkin' for the youth of Jammu and Kashmir was launched by Lieutenant Governor, Manoj Sinha. Under the scheme, unemployed youth are facilitated to procure small commercial vehicles on subsidized basis to establish a sustainable livelihood in transport sector.
The 'Mumkin' is a livelihood programme designed primarily for unemployed young people in the age bracket of 18 to 35. Under the 'Mumkin' scheme, small commercial vehicles are being provided to the youth with the banking partner extending the loan facility to the extent of 100 percent for on-road price of the vehicle to be purchased.
Mission Youth, J&K provides an amount of Rs 80,000 or 10 percent for on-road price of the vehicle (whichever is lesser) as upfront subsidy and the vehicle manufacturers (scheme partner of government) provide an upfront special discount, not less than the amount of subsidy.
To make the scheme implementation completely transparent and fast, a module has been developed on JK-e-Services portal for operating the scheme digitally.
