We are writing as a concerned nature enthusiast and a regular visitor to the pristine Balpakram National Park. I deeply appreciate the efforts made by the authorities to maintain the park's ecological integrity and preserve its natural beauty.

During our recent visit to Balpakram National Park, we couldn't help but notice a few developments that have raised some questions and concerns among ourself and others who share a passion for the park's wilderness.

Firstly, we observed that in several significant locations within the park, such as Dikkini Ring, Chidimak, Me·mang Me·sal Cha·ram, and Bandini Jallang, the names of these places have been prominently displayed on marble plaques. While we understand the intention behind this is to assist tourists in identifying these spots, we believe it's important to preserve the natural ambience of the park. Visitors, like ourself, often engage local guides who can aptly describe these places and their cultural significance. Hence, the addition of name plaques seems somewhat unnecessary and detracts from the park's natural charm.

Secondly, we were saddened to see that the famous Mite Rong·kol, which was once a natural cave and a refuge for visitors in emergencies or for those who needed to spend a night amidst the wilderness, has been converted into a building. While we acknowledge the importance of providing safe and functional spaces for Forest Rangers, Foresters, and others working diligently to protect the park, we wonder if an alternative location for such a building could have been considered. The conversion of Mite Rongkol has resulted in the loss of its natural beauty, which was once an integral part of the Balpakram experience.

We would be grateful if the concerned authorities could provide some insight into the rationale behind these changes and their impact on the park's overall objectives and natural aesthetics. Understanding the reasoning behind these decisions would go a long way in helping us appreciate the efforts made to maintain the park while also preserving its intrinsic charm.

Thank you for your attention to these concerns, and we look forward to hearing your thoughts on this matter. Balpakram National Park holds immense value for all of us who cherish its unique beauty and ecological significance 🙏🙏🙏

"The Mystical Footprints of Dilbu Pattal"

It was the month of October in the year 2022 when our team, Do·amek, embarked on an extraordinary journey to the depths of Emangre South Garo Hills. Our destination lay hidden in the least known corners of this picturesque region, a place called Dilbu Pattal. Little did we know that this unassuming hideaway held the key to a captivating tale, shrouded in mystery and folklore.

As we approached Dilbu Pattal, we could hear the gentle murmur of a small stream meandering its way through the landscape. Nestled along its banks, we discovered an intriguing sight - an unmistakable imprint of what appeared to be the foot of a colossal being on the solid rock. Excitement filled the air as we measured the imprint, only to unveil the astonishing truth - it was a left foot, a staggering 24 inches in length! Sadly, the right foot had been submerged by the cascading waters, leaving us with unanswered questions and an insatiable curiosity.

Our gracious host, Mr. Jefferson Momin, a resident of Emangre village, shared with us the story that had been passed down through generations. According to the tales of their ancestors, two brothers, Torak and Rongrak from the Arengh clan of the Garos, once roamed these lands. These siblings possessed extraordinary strength and stature, setting them apart from others in their community. They engaged in jhum cultivation for their livelihood, a revered practice among the Garos.

One fateful day, Torak, the elder brother, extended an invitation to Rongrak, the younger sibling. Garo custom dictated that nothing from the cultivation could be consumed without offering it to their deity, Torak proposed that they partake in the tradition of drinking rice beer from the previous year's harvest before indulging in their labor's fruits. This act would symbolize their gratitude and respect for the earth and its bounties.

As Rongrak embarked on his journey to join Torak, he encountered a colossal alligator, known as Pusil in the local dialect. Determined and fearless, he engaged in a fierce battle, pouring every ounce of strength into repelling the formidable creature. Sensing his younger brother's struggle, Torak heeded the call of an unknown force and rushed to his aid, brandishing his traditional sword, Milam.

Together, the brothers fought valiantly until they managed to sever the alligator's head, liberating Rongrak from his perilous situation. The foot imprint we discovered at Dilbu Pattal was a testimony to this legendary encounter, a symbol of the brothers' bravery and their unwavering bond.

Garo Hills had gained notoriety worldwide for alleged sightings of a mythical creature known as Big Foot. While we can't be certain if the foot imprint we encountered belonged to Big Foot or to Rongrak and Torak, the tale itself was undeniably captivating. It transported us back in time, weaving together the fabric of tradition, folklore, and the enigmatic wonders of the Garo Hills.

Our expedition to Dilbu Pattal had not only added to the lore of this mystical region but also reinforced our belief in the importance of preserving such tales for generations to come. As we bid farewell to the ethereal beauty of Emangre South Garo Hills, we carried with us the weight of this remarkable foot imprint - a silent guardian, a testament to a bygone era, and a reminder of the profound connection between man and nature.

May the mysteries of the Garo Hills continue to intrigue and delight, keeping alive the spirit of their ancient legends and filling our hearts with wonderment.

"The Garo Moon Mission: A Tale of Miscommunication"

According to Garo folk tales, the Garos were the first to attempt a journey to the moon.
Even before the Apollo Mission, the intelligent Garos embarked on their own mission to reach the moon.
The story begins with a young boy who cried incessantly, demanding his parents to bring him the moon.
The parents tried to console him by offering various objects and even warning of potential dangers like tigers, elephants, and ghosts. However, the boy remained adamant and insisted that his father go to space and fetch the moon.
Finally, the father and his friend decided to climb a hill using bamboo as their ladder.
The friend passed the bamboo to the father, who assembled it to continue climbing towards the moon. Just as the father was about to reach his destination, he realized he needed one more piece of bamboo to complete his journey. He shouted to his friend, desperately asking for one more bamboo.
Unfortunately, due to a miscommunication, the friend mistakenly believed that the father had already reached the moon. In this misunderstanding, the friend cut the bamboo leader, causing the father to fall to his death. The tragic incident took place in Chotipara village, where the location is now known as Jajong Kadoram. The Garo moon mission ultimately failed due to a small miscommunication.
Despite this outcome, the Garos take pride in being the first to attempt a journey to the moon, even before the Americans and Russians. The tale serves as a reminder of the significance of clear communication and the consequences that can arise from misunderstandings.
