: Avoid M.A Road on 8th Muharram, Follow Diversions: SSP Traffic Srinagar Urges Commuter says, Seperate Parking Arranged for Mourners

In view of the sacred month of Muharram, Srinagar Traffic Police have issued advisories to regulate vehicular movement and ensure smooth conduct of religious processions.

Speaking to news agency Senior Superintendent of Police (Traffic City Srinagar), Aijaz Ahmad Bhat said, “Traffic advisories have been put in place in connection with the ongoing Muharram processions. Currently, processions are being held in Saida Kadal-Rainawari and Zadibal sectors. Traffic is not being allowed in these areas, and diversions have been provided accordingly for smooth Muharram processions.”

He said a separate traffic plan has been devised for the upcoming major 8th Muharram procession, adding, “MA Road will remain heavily affected, especially from Jahangir Chowk to Dalgate via Guru Bazar.”

“We request commuters to avoid MA Road during this period. Traffic coming from Radio Kashmir and Abdullah Bridge will be allowed via Residency Road and Hari Singh High Street towards Jahangir Chowk. Meanwhile, vehicles coming from downtown Srinagar will be diverted via Habba Kadal,” SSP Bhat said.

Regarding arrangements for mourners, he said, “Adequate parking has been arranged near Gindun Park Rajbagh and SP College for those participating in the procession.”

“We appeal to all citizens to cooperate with the advisory, avoid restricted areas, and follow the route plan to ensure smooth movement and peaceful observance of Muharram processions,” the SSP added. (JKNS)

*Srinagar Sees Hottest June Since 1978; Second Hottest Since 1892*
*Qazigund Records Warmest June in Over 50 Years*

*For Srinagar:*
Srinagar just experienced its hottest June since 1978, making it the second hottest on record since observations began in 1892.

The average maximum temperature for June 2025 stood at 31.0°C, while the mean minimum settled at 18.2°C, resulting in an overall average temperature of 24.6°C.

The only hotter June on record for the city was in 1978, when the overall average temperature reached 25.0°C, driven by a higher mean maximum of 32.9°C, though the mean minimum that year was lower at 17.1°C.

Interestingly, 2008 still holds the record for the highest mean minimum temperature in June at 18.3°C, slightly above this year’s figure.

Notably, an overall average temperature of 24.6°C — the same as this year — was also recorded in 1971 and 1973, placing 2025 on par with some of the hottest Junes in history.

*For Qazigund:*
June 2025 recorded a mean maximum of 30.3°C and a mean minimum of 16.1°C, taking the overall average temperature to 23.2°C — the highest since 1973.

Back in 1973, the station had logged its hottest June on record with an average of 23.7°C, with slightly higher values — 30.4°C (mean max) and 16.9°C (mean min).

The June average in 1978 was also 23.2°C, same as this year, though the mean maximum was slightly lower at 30.2°C and the minimum a bit higher at 16.2°C.

Qazigund's highest average minimum for June remains 17.3°C, recorded in 1971, when the overall mean temperature reached 23.3°C.

Lt Governor Orders Reopening of Buried Terror Cases, Assures Justice for Victim Families

Srinagar, July 1: Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha today chaired a high-level meeting to address the grievances of families whose loved ones were brutally killed by Pakistan-backed terrorists.

The LG directed DCs and SSPs to reopen cases that were deliberately buried, register FIRs, and ensure jobs for the next of kin on priority. He also ordered the immediate freeing of properties and lands of terror victim families grabbed by terrorists or their sympathisers.

Sinha instructed identification of terror ecosystem elements involved in killings of common Kashmiris who are now serving in government departments. Special cells will be set up in the LG Secretariat and Chief Secretary’s office to address families’ concerns.

“The culprits roaming free for decades will be brought to justice. Every possible support will be extended to the victim families,” Sinha said.

DSEK’s Registration Drive: A Bid to Cover Up Govt School Failures?

The recent directive by Director School Education Kashmir (DSEK), G.N. Itoo, making registration compulsory for all private coaching centres within a month, has sparked outrage among education stakeholders. Many accuse the Director of attempting to clamp down on private initiatives under the guise of regulation. The mandatory 10% quota for deserving students and the ban on operations during school hours are being seen as arbitrary moves that could cripple private coaching, leaving thousands of students and tutors in uncertainty. Critics say instead of improving government schools, the Director is targeting private efforts that fill the education gap.

Behind SKIMS’ Walls:Patients Expose Gaps Hidden from VIP Eyes

SRINAGAR, JUNE 30: Minister for Health and Medical Education, Social Welfare and Education, Sakeena Itoo, today toured SKIMS Soura and Super Speciality Hospital Srinagar, interacting with patients and inspecting various departments, including Cardiology, Nephrology, Oncology and Critical Care Units.

While the Minister promised enhanced medical care in rural areas, many attendants questioned the purpose of these high-profile visits, alleging they often result in cosmetic changes rather than lasting improvements.

“Every time a VIP visits, the hospitals get a temporary facelift. But what about the broken system we deal with daily?” remarked an attendant at SKIMS, unwilling to be named.

Critics argue that such visits serve more for public relations than addressing the deep-rooted healthcare issues faced by patients from remote areas who continue to struggle for basic medical services and timely treatment.

The Minister, however, maintained that the Government is working on strengthening rural healthcare infrastructure and assured patients of focused efforts to improve services across Jammu and Kashmir.
