CSJD hosts conversation with noted Lawyer Mehmood Pracha
SRINAGAR, JUNE 22: The Civil Society for Justice and Development - CSJD an amalgamation of various organizations, activists, journalists, writers, businessmen based in Jammu and Kashmir hosted a conversation and Iftaar party for India’s noted advocate and President South Asian Minorities Lawyers Association (SAMLA) Mehmood Pracha, at Stream Restaurant, Boulevard Road, Srinagar. Besides some members of CSJD, dozens of guests representing different walks of life attended the conversation.
Advocate Pracha was accompanied by his better half Ms Sabiya and Delhi based young advocate Raies Ul-Haq Ahmad Sikander.
Pracha besides being a social activist is a pioneering expert of Outerspace law. He has been member of the International Institute of Space Law and European Centre for space Law. He is also legal advisor to National Commission for Women.
During the conversation on the occasion, Mr. Pracha said there is high need to shoulder meaningful responsibility by addressing the judicial aspect of a political problem that has been long skirted in Kashmir. He said it is difficult to trivialize the tragedies in any way, particularly for the family members of the victims. The grief of loss of family members is multiplied by the manner in which the deaths took place, further compounded by the abject denial of justice.
Mr Pracha discussed the issue of Triple Talaq, food safety, environment and women issues at length during the session. He also threw light on the important issues and concerns facing Indian Muslim community and problem of fake indictment by law end security enforcing agencies of the State.
"I greet the people of the Kashmir on the holy month of Ramadan. Today's Iftar was thrown by the CSJD and I thank its members for felicitating me. On this occasion, I pray that everyone in Kashmir lives in peace and harmony and Kashmir develops," said Pracha.
The occasion was graced by renowned and respected personalities of the society like Abdul Rashid Hanjura (Social Activist and Advocate), Sheikh Ghulam Rasool (Founder RTI Movement), Rameez Makhdoomi (Journalist) Tauseef Mir (Entrepreneur & Activist) Mushtaq Ul-Haq Ahmad Sikander (Writer-Activist) Farooq Ahmad Faktoo (Educationist) Bilal Bashir Bhat (Journalist-Activist) Badar Bashir (Student) and besides other members of CSJD.
Also the members of the media fraternity and prominent citizens like Farzana Mumtaz, Manzoor Ibn Sultan, Mushafiq Sultan, Khair ul Nisa, Kousar Jan, Kaiser Mir, Sheezan Kawoosa and Akeel Kawoosa also participated and interacted with Mehmood Pracha.

CSJD appeals state to act on Murky Organizations active in Kashmir
Srinagar, June 10: Civil Society for Justice and Development (CSJD) in a statement on Wednesday has appealed people of Kashmir to remain vigilant about the credentials of the person and organizations while donating their Zakah amount, adding, the state also needs to deregister such NGOs, Darul Ulooms and Trusts that just revive during Ramadan and vanish in thin air for the rest of year.
The CSJD spokesman said that during the month of Ramadan, numerous organizations sprang up demanding donations for nonexistent orphanages, widow welfare schemes, marriage assistance, educational scholarships and Darul Ulooms. He said there has been no concrete Social Activism towards the Welfare of Half-Widows, Prisoners, Detainees, Literacy, Mass Education, Women’s Rights and lot more.
“In the name of Social Service is growing number of orphanages and Darul Ulooms of which majority claim to give free religious and secular education to the enrolled orphans, but after certain educational qualification they too cannot stay in these homes, which at once become alien to them, making them lurch under naked sky with unemployment hanging on their heads like Damocles.”
“Majority of our population resides in villages, but we are least concerned about working in those harsh conditions as majority of Social Activists aren’t ready to work at grass root level in far flung areas away from eye of glamour, praise and crowd,” the spokesman added.
The spokesman said it was need of the hour that state and civil society to keep a check on the murky organizations and nonexistent institutions that claim to work for the betterment and empowerment of poor and destitute.
Pertinently, during the month of Ramadan, Kashmir also witnesses a bloom of local and non-local beggars, as they flock to take advantage of the generosity of Muslims.
