An oil tanker belonging to a company owned by Israeli billionaire Idan Ofer was struck in a drone attack in the Gulf of Oman amid heightened tensions with Iran, officials said. Iran's hardline-affiliated Nournews blamed Israel, claiming it is a "distraction from the World Cup," which is set to be held in Qatar next week.

An Iranian university professor says the rioters, who have been wreaking havoc across the country over the past months, receive their cue from Western media outlets.

"These rioters have been egged on by Persian-language media based in the West, largely in London, funded by the West and the Saudis," Mohammad Marandi, a University of Tehran professor, told Press TV in an interview on Tuesday.

"And these media outlets are calling the killings and the burnings and the beatings as legitimate," he added

Iran has built a hypersonic ballistic missile, the semi-official Tasnim news agency quoted the Revolutionary Guards' aerospace commander as saying, in remarks likely to heighten concerns about Iranian missile capabilities.

"This missile has a high speed and can maneuver in and out of the atmosphere. It will target the enemy's advanced anti-missile systems and is a big generational leap in the field of missiles," commander Amir Ali Hajizadeh was quoted as saying.

Tehran has repeatedly denied the claims but on Saturday foreign minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian was quoted as saying that drones had been sent to Russia before the invasion began in late February.

"We supplied Russia with a limited number of drones months before the war in Ukraine," Amir-Abdollahian said, according to Iran's official news agency IRNA.

But he again denied Iran had supplied missiles to Russia, calling the accusations "completely false".

For weeks, Russian forces have rained missiles and explosive drones onto Ukraine's infrastructure, as a major Ukrainian ground offensive -- propelled by Western arms deliveries -- has pushed Russian troops back in swathes of the country.

Kyiv claims around 400 Iranian drones have already been used against the civilian population of Ukraine and that Moscow has ordered around 2,000.

Tehran: A new wave of protests has swept across Iran after 19-year-old celebrity chef Mehrshad Shahidi, also known as ‘Jamie Oliver of Iran’, was beaten to death during hijab protests in Arak. Mehrshad Shahidi was killed on Wednesday night in the custody of Iran’s Revolutionary Guard in Arak city. “Our son lost his life as a result of receiving baton blows to his head after his arrest, but we have been under pressure by the regime to say that he has died of a heart attack”, a relative of Mehrshad told Iran International TV....

The Ukrainian troops are holding out in two towns in the east and preparing to wrest back Kherson in the south. As Russian bombardment continues in full earnest, Ukraine’s intelligence suggests that Moscow has run out of missiles and is turning to Iranian munition to keep itself afloat in the ongoing war.

Kyrylo Budanov, Chief of Ukraine’s Defense Intelligence Directorate, recently announced that Russia is running dangerously low on missiles that it could use to attack the interiors of Ukraine. He was speaking in an interview with Ukrainian Pravda.

Budanov said Russia has a ready supply of Iranian “Shahed” drones, the widely used kamikaze drones. However, he added that Russia is purchasing them in large numbers since its missile inventories are “nearly exhausted.” The announcement comes when Russia ravages Ukraine with missile and drone strikes.

Putin oversees nuclear deterrence drills

Russian state media said that several of the exercises of the Strategic Nuclear Deterrence Forces, which took place under the supervision of Russian President Vladimir Putin, included the launch of a ballistic missile from a nuclear submarine.

The Russian media said that the clips, distributed by the Russian Defense Ministry, show the launch of the "Sineva" intercontinental ballistic missile from the nuclear submarine "Tula" in the Barents Sea.

The Kremlin said that the missiles fired during the exercises hit their targets, and that strategic launchers participated in the exercises.

Putin personally supervised the exercises of the land, sea and air strategic nuclear deterrent forces, according to "Novosti Agency".

The agency stated that the exercises also witnessed the launch of ballistic missiles through the "Yars" system, and winged missiles.

The US Department of Defense (Pentagon), stated that the United States had received an official notification regarding Russia's conduct of its annual nuclear training "GROM" [Thunder], noting that Washington considered this notification in line with the transparency obligations agreed upon between the two countries.

The Russian maneuvers coincide with the long-planned nuclear exercises by NATO, "Steadfast Noon". This year's NATO exercises, hosted by Belgium, are taking place from October 17 to October 30, with 14 countries participating.

Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov previously stressed that "Moscow does not threaten to use nuclear weapons," stressing that "nuclear rhetoric is escalating in Western capitals, in an attempt to make it appear that Moscow is preparing to use weapons of mass destruction."

At least 15 people were killed in an attack on a Shia Muslim shrine in the Iranian city of Shiraz on Wednesday, state news agency, IRNA, said, as security forces elsewhere clashed with protesters marking 40 days since the death of Mahsa Amini, Reuters reports.

Early reports of the attack gave varying accounts. The local police chief said there had been a single attacker, who had been arrested, while news agencies said three people were involved.

IRNA described them as "takfiri terrorists", a label used by officials in predominantly Shia Muslim Iran to refer to hard line, armed Sunni Islamist groups. Nournews, affiliated with Iran's top security body, said they were not Iranian nationals.

The attackers were in a car and shot at pilgrims and staff at the entrance to the shrine of Shah Cheragh, IRNA quoted witnesses as saying. Police arrested two of the three "terrorists" and were looking for the third.

The semi-official Tasnim news agency said several women and children were among the dead.

The attack took place on the same day that Iranian security forces opened fire at mourners who gathered in Amini's Kurdish home town of Saqez, according to a witness.

"Riot police shot mourners who gathered at the cemetery for Mahsa's memorial ceremony … dozens have been arrested," the witness said. Iranian authorities were not available to comment.

Iran's semi-official ISNA news agency said about 10,000 people had gathered at the cemetery, adding that the internet was cut off after clashes between security forces and people there.

Israeli occupation security services, in collaboration with local agents, assassinated the perceived leader of the Lions' Den group, Tamer Al-Kilani, may God rest his soul. He was killed on 23 October by an explosive device planted on a motorcycle that could be detonated remotely. It blew up as he passed by.

Who detonated the bomb at the right time? The Israeli media neither talks about this point nor names the perpetrator. Logic suggests that it was either a collaborator on the ground nearby, or a reconnaissance aircraft or drone.

It is likely that it was a collaborator, which is why the Lions' Den needs to be secure and the perpetrator must be found. The group needs to be more cautious after studying the assassination operation. Indeed, Nablus needs to be more secure; six Palestinians have been killed in the city this week already.

The use of a remotely-detonated explosive device is not a new method of killing Palestinians, as the Israeli newspapers try to claim. As long ago as 1996, Yahya Ayyash was killed in Gaza by a remotely-detonated explosive planted in a mobile phone. In 2006, Israel assassinated Abu Al-Abed Al-Quqa, the leader of the popular committees, with an explosive device placed in a car on the road that he passed through on his way to the mosque. This old-new method depends on two elements for its success: the local agent, and careful intelligence and monitoring of the target, with information being updated immediately.

Ukraine has alleged Russia has now purchased an even more advanced Iranian drone, the Arash-2, with some Ukrainian military watchers claiming Iranian experts are advising Russia on the ground.

Russia has already been using the Shahed-136 drone significantly in harassing Ukrainian military and military-connected civilian infrastructure, despite losing many to anti-aircraft fire.

Activists in Bahrain have criticised actress Shaima Sabt after she appeared in a photograph with Israeli Ambassador Eitan Naeh. The ambassador posted photographs on his Twitter account showing himself being hosted by a group of Bahraini artists, including Sabt.

In 2020, the Bahraini government signed a normalisation agreement with Israel as part of the Abraham Accords, paving the way for the opening of an Israeli Embassy in the tiny Gulf kingdom. Popular outrage is ongoing at the normalisation of relations with the apartheid state. Conversely, there is a lot of public support for those who oppose normalisation.

Bahraini social media users expressed solidarity in July with Sheikha Mai Bint Muhammad Al Khalifa after she was sacked from her position as Minister of Culture over her refusal to shake hands with the Israeli ambassador.

Despite Israel's efforts to strengthen its ties with countries around the world, it has recently been involved in several political crises. These have uncovered a big diplomatic failure, given that the countries it's clashing with were some of its close political allies.

Tensions started east, with Russia. These increased after Moscow's war on Ukraine and intensified further after Tel Aviv's public condemnation of Russia's bombing of Kyiv. The Russian embassy in Tel Aviv responded by highlighting what it says is Israel's double standards. Tel Aviv, the embassy said, kept silent for eight months about the Ukrainian attacks in the Donbass and turned a blind eye to the recent deadly attacks against a refugee convoy in the Kharkiv region, the brutal killings of civilians by what it calls "neo-Nazis" and the attack on the bridge leading to Crimea.

Israeli forces have carried out a series of raids across the occupied West Bank, killing at least five Palestinians and injuring over 20 others.

The new fatalities took place early Tuesday when Israeli forces attacked several neighborhoods in the Old City of Nablus as well as a town north of Ramallah, the official Palestinian Wafa news agency reported.

The Hamas-run Interior Ministry said Saturday it had thwarted several Israeli intelligence operations in the Gaza Strip, reports Anadolu Agency.

Iyad al-Bozom, the ministry spokesman, did not, however, provide any details of the thwarted operations.

On Monday, Doha-based Al-Jazeera TV said that last month Malaysian authorities had freed a Palestinian kidnapped by Israeli Mossad agents in the capital Kuala Lumpur.

"This was not the first time that Mossad failed in carrying out operations against Palestinians," al-Buzum told Anadolu Agency.

There was no comment from Israeli authorities on the report.

In 2018, Fadi al-Batsh, a research engineer thought to be linked to Hamas, was gunned down near his home in the Malaysian capital by two gunmen who fled the scene.

Iran has technology to produce almost all gas industry equipment, the head of its state gas engineering company has said.

Moscow and Tehran have struck a deal that would see the Islamic Republic selling 40 domestically produced gas turbines to Russia, Reza Noushadi, the CEO of Iranian Gas Engineering and Development Company, told the Iranian oil ministry's news agency Shana on Sunday.

According to Noushadi, Iran is currently capable of independently producing “85% of … the equipment needed in the gas industry.” This capability allowed it to sign the contract with Moscow, he added. The CEO did not reveal when exactly the deal was struck and when the turbines are to arrive in Russia.

The Palestinian resistance movement Hamas says it would continue to develop and strengthen relations with Syria in the future to serve the Palestinian cause, particularly in light of the escalating Israeli aggression and crimes.

Hamas spokesman Hazem Qassem made the remarks in an interview with Sawt al-Aqsa Radio on Wednesday, after a high-ranking delegation of the Gaza-based resistance movement met with Syrian President Bashar al-Assad in Damascus.

Qassem further emphasized that the Hamas delegation’s visit to Syria, along with other Palestinian factions, was aimed at restoring relations with the Arab country.

He also noted that Hamas is determined to build solid relations with neighboring countries in order to gain support for the resistance and the liberation of Palestine.

President Ibrahim Raeisi says the Islamic Republic of Iran opposes war and conflict in Europe and is ready to use all its capacities, including in the diplomatic sphere, in bringing an end to it.

In a phone call with his Polish counterpart on Wednesday in which the two discussed strengthening bilateral relations and the Ukraine conflict, President Raeisi dismissed accusations leveled against Iran by the Western countries regarding the Ukraine conflict, and said that the Islamic Republic is ready to use all its means to play a role in ending the war in Europe through diplomacy.

President Raeisi assured Andrzej Duda that “the Islamic Republic of Iran will use all its capacity and potential to end the war.”

"In light of the current circumstances, both Tehran and Warsaw should seek to improve economic and trade relations by providing appropriate solutions," Raeisi added.

For his part, Duda stated that the Islamic Republic of Iran has always sought to expand and promote peace and stability in the world and called for enhancing the level of cooperation between the two countries on both bilateral and international stages.

The US and the European Union have repeatedly made allegations that Iran has been providing weapons and drones to Russia for deployment against Ukraine.

According to the presidential decree, martial law is introduced in the Donetsk and Lugansk people's republics, and the Zaporozhye and Kherson regions from October 20. The maximum response level is in effect there.

Russia’s regions bordering Ukraine will observe a medium level of response, other regions of the Central and Southern federal districts - a level of higher readiness, and the other regions of Russia - the basic one.

TASS has summarized the gist of what was said at the Security Council’s meeting and of the adopted decrees.
