Budgam girl bags two gold medals at Kashmir University

Budgam, Oct 12: A girl from Central Kashmir’s Budgam district bagged two gold medals for her brilliance at Kashmir University.

Nazima Ashraf, a resident of Kanchatipora Khag received these two gold medals from the Indian President Droupadi Murmu at Convocation Hall of Kashmir University.

Nazima Ashraf who is one of the brightest students got one gold medal for securing a position in MA in Persian and the other gold medal she bagged for her brilliance in Indo-Iran studies.

Nazima Ashraf Malik is pursuing her post-graduation at the Department of Persian. While talking to news agency Kashmir News Trust Nazima thanked Almighty for all this and said that there is no substitute for hard work.

Locals thronged at her residence in Khag to appreciate her for this achievement. [KNT]

President Murmu arrives in Srinagar for 2-day J&K visit

Srinagar, Oct 11: Amid heightened security measures, President Draupadi Murmu on Wednesday arrived in Srinagar for a two-day visit to Jammu and Kashmir.

An official told the news agency—Kashmir news Observer (KNO), that President Murmu was received by Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha at Srinagar Airport.

He said that the President will preside over the 20th convocation of the University of Kashmir today.

On October 12 she will visit Shri Mata Vaishno Devi temple where she will inaugurate a remodelled Parvati Bhavan and Skywalk at the revered shrine.

She will also interact with members of local tribal groups and women of self-help groups at Raj Bhavan besides attending a civic reception to be hosted in her honour there—(KNO)

Tourists feel mesmerised after sipping Kehwa with 16 ingredients in famous Dal Lake

Srinagar, Oct 10: As Mushtaq Hussain Akhoon, a Kashmiri Kehwa seller, nudges his boat gently in the interiors of Dal Lake, he can often be spotted followed by the tourists.

Locals as well as tourists like his Kehwa, which he claims to be very special. Akhoon said that he experimented with Kashmiri Kehwa by mixing 16 different ingredients, which resulted into a refreshing drink.

“I was earlier associated with Kashmiri handicrafts. Now, it has been eight years since I sold my special Kehwa to tourists at Dal Lake. I mix 16 different ingredients including almond, cardamom, cashews, chai patti (tea leaves), cinnamon, dates, ginger , honey, mulethi, shangram and saffron and others to make a very refreshing drink,” he told news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO).

Akhoon said every day at least 100 tourists drink his Kehwa, which costs just Rs 50 per cup.

“For the last few years, my Kehwa has become a compulsory drink for tourists. They like the aroma of my Kehwa since it is being prepared in front of them. I got good reviews so far which encourages me to make it even better,” he said.

What made Akhoon, a famous personality at Dal Lake, is the constant coverage of his Kehwa by food vloggers.

He has been featured by the food blogging pages like Dil Se Foodie Official, Kashmir Food Gram, Food Founder, Veggie Wander and others.

“Food vloggers after relishing my Kehwa like it a lot. They shot the entire video of its preparation and shared their experience with their viewers. Since then I am being recognized by the people who visit from different parts of India. They drink my Kehwa and share their experiences,” he said.

Akhoon said his Kehwa remains in good demand during the winters when temperature in Kashmir drops sub-zero.

“The specialty of Kehwa is that it warms one’s body. The ingredients in Kehwa are helpful in treating diseases like cold, cough and headache,” he said.

With Arabic origins, Kahwa—often spelled Kehwa or Kahwah—is now a common ingredient in Kashmiri cooking. The u unique recipe, which also contains green tea, cardamom, crushed almonds, cloves, and Kashmiri rose, is nothing short of ecstasy in a cup—(KNO)

After rain spell, MeT predicts mainly dry weather in JK till Oct 13

Srinagar, Oct 10: After overnight rains in plains and snowfall over upper reaches, the weather was clear at most places in Jammu and Kashmir with the meteorological department on Tuesday predicting mainly clear skies till October 13.

A meteorological department official here said that a brief spell of rain/snowfall over higher reaches may occur but “chances are less.”

He said that weather is expected to be mainly dry fr4om October 11 to 13.

From October 14-17, he said, intermittent light to moderate rain and snowfall over higher reaches was likely at many places of Jammu and Kashmir and its chances ranged between 60-70%.

Regarding the rainfall from last evening till 0830 hours today, he said, Srinagar received 16.7mm, Qazigund 17.2mm, Pahalgam 16.6mm, Kupwara 3.6mm, Kokernbag 21.0mm, Gulmarg 26.6mm, Jammu 27.5mm, Banihal 30mm, Batote 35.2mm, Katra 32.4mm and Bhaderwah 18.4mm. (GNS)

Woman dies, bike rider injured in Bijbehara road accident

Srinagar, Oct 10:- A woman died while as a biker rider was injured after they were hit by a bus in Jablipora Bijbehara area of South Kashmir's Anantnag district.

An official told News Agency Kashmir Scroll that a bus hit a pedestrian and a bike rider at Jabilpora Bijbehara.

The pedestrian identified as Misbah Gulzar (25) daughter of Gulzar ahmad manto resident of Jabilpora died on spot and the bike rider identified as Bashir ahmad Rah (52) son of Gh Qadir Rah R/o SK Colony anantnag has suffered head injuries and is now being treated at GMC anantnag.

Meanwhile police have taken cognizance and started investigation.(KS)

Violent Clash Leaves Three Students Injured in Rajouri School

Investigation Initiated : School Authorities

Rajouri, Oct 09 : Three students were injured in a group clash in Rajouri district on Monday sources said.

Sources told news agency Kashmir Scroll (KS) the the incident occurred on Monday when two student groups engaged in a heated argument, which escalated into a physical confrontation.

The injured students have been identified as Danish (16), son of Abdul Aziz, Badal (17), son of Vijay Kumar, and Shahbaz (15), son of Mohammad Rashid.

All three are studying at JNV College Koternaka.

After the clash, the injured students were promptly taken to a nearby hospital and later transferred to GMC Rajouri for specialized treatment as advised by the doctors.

The local police have registered a case in connection with the incident and have initiated an investigation sources added.

In response to the incident, Kamal Jeet Singh, the vice principal of the school, informed news agency Kashmir Scroll that a team has been formed to conduct an inquiry into the matter, ensuring a thorough investigation of the clash. (KS)

Woman killed in hit-and-run case in Baramulla

>>> A woman died after she was hit by an unknown vehicle in Delina area of north Kashmir’s Baramulla district on Monday.

Quoting official sources news agency KS reported that an unknown vehicle hit a woman identified as Shameema Begum, the widow of Lal Din Mangral, a resident of Rawathpora Delina, resulting in injuries.

After the incident the lady was rushed to GMC Baramulla hospital for treatment where from she was referred to Srinagar for specialised treatment. However, she succumbed to her injuries.

Police have taken cognizance of the incident and case under FIR 204/2023 U/S 279,337, IPC stands registered in Police Station Baramulla and investigation taken up, they said.

Man dies after bike rams wall in Bandipora

Bandipora, Dec 14: A motor-cyclist died after his bike rammed into a wall in North Kashmir’s Bandipora district.

Sources told news agency Kashmir News Trust that a biker identified as Talib Ahmed Bhat, a resident of Bagh Bandipora sustained critical injuries after the bike he was riding rammed into a wall.

The victim was shifted to District Hospital Bandipora where he succumbed to his injuries.

Police in this regard have registered a case under relevant sections of law. [KNT]

Arrest of religious clerics: BJP says innocents among them will be freed soon

‘Anyone involved in wrong doings will face action’

Srinagar, Sep 21: Reacting to the arrest of religious clerics from Kashmir, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) those who are innocents will be freed soon.

Talking to the media persons on the sidelines of the function here, BJP General Secretary (Organization), Ashok Koul, as per the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), BJP will ensure that no action is taken against the persons who are not involved in wrong doings.

“BJP will ensure that action is taken against the persons involved in the wrong doings,” Koul said while reacting to the arrest of religious clerics in Kashmir and said that among the arrests, the innocents will be freed soon.

Pertinently, several Islamic clerics were arrested and booked under Public Safety Act (PSA) by Jammu and Kashmir for their alleged involvement in instigating youth.

Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) Kashmir, Vijay Kumar had on Saturday said that several religious preachers booked under PSA were instigating youth despite being warned against it several times.

Kumar had said that they had warned these people many times, but they ignored them. “There are reports that some of the clerics are doing the same practice but soon after getting the proper evidence, they too will be booked,” he said—(KNO)
