District Administration Shopian today organised a Mega Awareness cm Employment Mela at GDC Shopian in order to provide a platform to people especially youth aspiring to take self employment ventures for their economic upliftment.
All departments providing self employment avenues and service based departments along with business entrepreneurs, farmers and others had set up stalls showcasing their products and services besides generating awareness on their respective schemes for self employment.
The awareness of different government schemes for livelihood and employment was targeted specially with onspot registration of beneficiaries and potential entrepreneurs.
The Mela was inaugurated by Deputy Commissioner (DC) Shopian, Mohammad Shahid Saleem Dar with participation of more than 5000 youth. Around 1000 registrations of youth for different schemes was done on spot by Departments.
The DC inspected stalls set up by different departments including service and employment based, development based, community led, Financial institutions,Agri companies, local progressive farmers and business establishments.
He interacted with staff and successful entrepreneurs on their employment ventures and sought their feedback on schemes and their benefits.
People were seen visiting the counters and stalls to get themselves acquainted with new practices,schemes and business opportunities.
The Mela also provided a platform to business establishments and farmers to sell their produce and products,which received massive public response.
Established entrepreneurs and farmers who spoke on the occasion briefed the DC about their successful businesses.
On the occasion, the DC Shopian handed over sanction letters of Reefer Vans to three beneficiaries under AIF, keys of Commercial vehicles to two beneficiaries under Mumkin scheme, sanction letters of PMEGP to two beneficiaries, only to mention a few events of of the distribution function.

Kulgam Police attaches immovable property under Unlawful activities (prevention) act, 1967 (UAPA) at Chenigam, Frisal where 04 terrorists were neutralized on 06 July 2024
Kulgam December 13: In a significant move to counter terrorism, Kulgam Police have attached a property (Single-storied Residential house) under Section 25 of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, 1967 (UAPA). The property is registered in the name of Mushtaq Ahmad Bhat son of Mohammad Akbar Bhat resident of Chenigam, Frisal spans10 Marlas (Survey No. 293 Min).
The attachment is linked to case FIR No. 53/2024 of Police Station Yaripora and was executed in the presence of a duly constituted Police team and the Executive Magistrate, ensuring full compliance with legal protocols.
This action represents a significant milestone in the ongoing investigation into unlawful and subversive activities in the district. It highlights the firm commitment of Kulgam Police to neutralize threats to national security and maintain peace and order.
A Mega Awareness Camp on Self Employment Schemes is scheduled to take place at Government Degree College (GDC) Shopian on December 14th (Saturday) .
Deputy Commissioner Shopian, Mohammad Shahid Saleem Dar has urged job-seeking youth to participate in the camp to learn about various self-employment schemes and opportunities available to them.
The camp aims to promote financial empowerment and provide information on schemes that can help youth become self-employed. This initiative is part of the result oriented efforts to create employment opportunities and promote entrepreneurship among the youth.
By attending the camp, participants can gain insights into various self-employment schemes, interact with experts, and learn about the application process.
Onspot registration for schemes shall also be done.The event is expected to be a valuable resource for job-seeking youth in Shopian.
Deputy Commissioner, Shopian Mohammad Shahid Saleem Dar today visited the Heerpora Wildlife Sanctuary at Shopian to review wildlife protection services of the department.
During the visit, the DC assessed the conservation efforts and protection services in place to safeguard the sanctuary's wildlife and their habitats.
By reviewing wildlife protection services, the DC stressed to ensure the sanctuary continues to thrive as a protected habitat for various wildlife species, preserving the biodiversity with special focus on Markhor.
The need to strengthen the conservation efforts at Niche for increasing the population of Markhoor and engaging wildlife experts & consultancy services and replicating the best conservation practices was sought for with particular emphasis on its natural environment.
The equipment availability of the wildlife division was assessed and further augmentation discussed for provision.
DC also inspected the foot path development works to Aliabad and Sukh Sarais and directed for augmenting the developed path under convergence with MGNAREGA.
ADDC, Dr. Nasir Ahmad Lone inquired about the human- animal conflicts in the district.
The sanctuary, located in Shopian district, is home to diverse flora and fauna, including the critically endangered Pir Panjal markhor.
DIO Shopian, Showkat Hussain Ganie and officials of the Wildlife department were also present on the occasion.
Deputy Commissioner Shopian, Mohammad Shahid Saleem Dar, highlighting the importance of the One Stop Centre (OSC) Helpline number 181, emphasizing its role in providing support and assistance to women in distress.
Since its inception, the OSC Shopian has achieved significant milestones, providing a safe and confidential space for women to report cases of domestic violence and other forms of abuse.
The Deputy Commissioner urged citizens to spread awareness about the 181 Helpline number, encouraging women to come forward and seek help when needed.
By popularizing the OSC Helpline number, the administration aims to promote women's empowerment, safety, and well-being in Shopian district.
OSC is located at Old DC Shopian in Shopian town and has territorial jurisdiction over the district and is largely manned by Women staff for better counseling services and privacy issues

Devsar (Kulgam) Nov 29: Even as the government has claimed to provide tap water to every household in Jammu and Kashmir by March 2022, Inhabitants of Nawa Chowgam village of south Kashmir’s kulgam district on Friday staged a protest against Jal Shakti Department for failing to provide adequate water supply.
Residents told that officials have failed to provide drinking water supply to this village for the past couple of years.
“We have been moving from pillar to post but authorities have failed to augment water supply. We are suffering in the absence of regular water supply for past couple of years,” a local said.
“Due to the hardships of water scarcity in our area, we have to take long distance routes twice in a day to get pitchers of water in order to meet the basic requirements of cooking and drinking”, said a women Rafiqa Banoo.
Locals urged the concerned authorities to look into the issue so that they could heave a sigh of relief.
Assistant Executive Engineer (AEE) PHE Division Qazigund, Rafiq Ahmad told that “I acknowledge that the Nawa village has been suffering from the acute shortage of water. However efforts have been taken tirelessly to work on the JJM Scheme. We have already completed 90% work of it, but work was halted due to the hindrance of local dweller, now we have taken up matter with higher ups, I assure that within weeks it will be completed and water will be restored ,” he said
