Only 1915, not 70,000 students affected by ban on FAT schools: Officials
'Admission, academics of affected students will duly be taken care of'

Srinagar, June 18: Only 1915 students were affected with the cessation of academic activities in Falah-e-Aam Trust (FAT) run schools, officials clarified on Saturday.
The officials assured that the admission and academics of affected students will be duly taken care of in a mission mode and special camps in this regard will start from Monday onwards in designated nearby Higher Secondary, High or Middle schools.
Speaking to Rising Kashmir an official wishing anonymity, revealed, “Only 1915 students are affected with the cessation of academic activities in FAT owned schools and not 70,000 as peddled by some political parties.”
“The affected students will also be shifted to nearby government schools in a mission mode program,” the official assured.
The official further informed that care is being taken to give additional masters and lecturers in these schools.
“The additional class rooms and related facilities are being created in a mission mode as per the need so that their studies do not suffer. Further decisions regarding other similar schools will be taken after taking into account all factors,” the official clarified.
Giving backgrounder about the story the official said while examining the status of FAT schools, it was found that in spite of ban on Falah-e-Aam Trust association/organization, the said association/organization is running still some institution illegally in the pretext of order of the Hon’ble High Court; OWP No. 598/1989 dated 16.04.2005.
“…… an interim direction requiring the authorities concerned to allow the students to appear in the examination. The direction shall remain in force till decision is taken by the Government. However, it shall be obligatory upon the petitioners to represent to the Government in writing within three months failing which, writ petition shall be deemed to have been dismissed and interim direction vacated”.
“In light of above order and orders in subsequent orders, around 11 schools were issued Registration Return Forms to the students of the schools, run and affiliated to the petitioner-Trust and were allowed the students enrolled in the institution run by the petitioner-trust to sit in the examination and to complete all formalities that may be required for conduct of examination, declaration of the result of the students and authentication of certificates,” the government order reads.
Accordingly it was imperative that the case be examined in the School Education Department in consultation with the Law Department and only after its examination Government order no. 1580-Edu of 2022 dated 13.06.2022 were passed and all the students presently studying in these banned institutions shall admit themselves to nearby Government schools for the current academic session i.e. 2021-22. No new admissions were allowed in these banned FAT institution and registration of these institutions were stopped.
“In view of powers conferred by sub-section (1) of section-3 of the J&K Criminal Law Amendment Act, 1983; the Government of Jammu & Kashmir has already declared/banned Falah-e-Aam Trust (FAT) association/organization to be an unlawful association, notified vide SRO No. 11.51 dated 11.05.1990. 11,000 students reportedly studying in these schools were allowed to take admission in the nearby Government Schools and till now around 900 teaching and non-teaching staff in the Falah-e-Aam Trust (FAT) schools have been absorbed in the Department”, the official said.
As per information provided by Director School Education Kashmir and JKBOSE, only 22 institutions are affected by the fresh order, however 12 schools are closed before this order itself.
Those schools which came under ban include Islamia Model School Ajas Sonwari Srinagar (395); Islamia Model School, Kupwara (closed); Islamia Model School, Chontipora, Handwara (65); Islamia Model School, DEVAR Lolab Kupwara; Islamia Model School, Dooru Sopore Baramulla (closed in 2020); Islamia Model School, Batmaloo Srinaar (90); Islamia Model School, New Chowk Anantnag (191); Islamia Model School, Safapora, Ganderbal (closed); Islamia Iqbal Memorial School, Sopore Baramulla (closed in 2021); Noorul Islam High School, Baramulla (closed in 2021); Islamia Model School, Kupwara; Islamia Model School, Pohrupeth Handwara (161 ); Islamia Model School, Handwara (closed); Islamia Model School, Chogal,Handwara (91); Islamia Iqbal Memorial School,Zaloora, Sopore (closed); Islamia Model School, Barzulla Srinagar
