*Chairman DDC Kupwara inaugurates H&WC Panditpora, Tourist Spot Lokipora*
KUPWARA, JANUARY 30: Chairman DDC Kupwara, Irfan Sultan Panditpori today inaugurated Health & Wellness Centre and Tourist Spot in Qaziabad block of district Kupwara. The inauguration was made in presence of Deputy Commissioner Kupwara, Ms. Ayushi Sudan.
Assistant Commissioner Development Kupwara, Muzaffar Ahmad Shiekh; BDO Qaziabad, Tehsildar Qaziabad, besides, employees and large number of people were present on the occasion.
The Chairman made inauguration of Tourist Spot Lokipora located in block Qaziabad in presence of the Deputy Commissioner.
Speaking at the occasion, the Chairman expressed his gratitude towards the Deputy Commissioner for her visit to Qaziabad block. He said it was the long pending demand of the local people to develop the tourist destination in Qaziabad. He added that Qaziabad area has a good potential of tourism and hoped that the administration will exploit it for the betterment and welfare of the people.
The Deputy Commissioner also spoke and congratulated the Chairman DDC for promoting the tourism development of Qaziabad area.
Later, the Chairman visited Panditpora village where he inaugurated newly constructed building of Health & Wellness Centre in presence of the Deputy Commissioner.
The Deputy Commissioner inspected the newly constructed H&WC and appreciated the efforts of the Chairman and Health Department for its successful establishment.
Later, the Deputy Commissioner visited various areas of block Qaziabad and took inspection of different developmental works including JJM works at Kralgund.

*Kupwara Police - Thana Divas Held at Police Station Sogam & Police Post Kalaroose*

Kupwara, 30-01-2025: Kupwara Police conducted Thana Divas at Police Station Sogam and Police Post Kalaroose, aiming to address public grievances, enhance police-public relations, and discuss measures to improve law enforcement. Senior police officers, local representatives, and members of civil society actively participated in the discussions.

At Police Station Sogam, the event was attended by Ghulam Jeelani Wani-JKPS,SSP Kupwara DySP PC Lolab, Raeis Ahmad-JKPS, SHO PS Sogam,Insp Imtiyaz Ahmas SHO PS Sogam and other officials. Key issues raised included power curtailments, the need for timely forest firewood auctions, and expediting police verifications. The public appreciated the anti-drug efforts of Kupwara Police and emphasized the importance of more police-public engagement programs.

In his address, SSP Kupwara reaffirmed that police and the public must work together for a safer society. He stressed that drug abuse is a severe social menace, even more harmful than terrorism if left unchecked. He assured that Kupwara Police is committed to dismantling the drug mafia and taking strict legal action, including attaching properties of offenders. He also threw light on community service as form of punishment in addressing petty crimes and disputes.

At Police Post Kalaroose, Rafee Rather-JKPS, DySP Hqrs Kupwara, and DO Kalaroose PSI Waqar Geelani lead the discussions. Concerns were raised about streamlining verification for seasonal migration to Bahaks and improving infrastructure and road connectivity. Locals also urged police to organize youth engagement activities like sports events and awareness drives.

DySP Hqrs Kupwara assured the public that their concerns would be forwarded for necessary action and emphasized that community cooperation is essential for maintaining peace and security.

Kupwara Police remains committed to ensuring public safety, eliminating drug abuse, and promoting mutual trust between police and the people.

*Kupwara Police Apprehends Drug Peddler Evading Arrest Since 2023*

Kupwara,30-01-2025: In a significant breakthrough in the ongoing fight against the drug menace, Police Station Lalpora apprehended a notorious drug peddler who had been evading arrest for the past 14 months.

The accused, Jameel Khan, S/o Gh Qadir Khan, R/o Dever Lolab, aged 35 years, was wanted in connection with FIR No. 90/2023 registered under Section 8/20 NDPS Act at Police Station Lalpora. The FIR was lodged on 14/11/2023, and since then, the accused had been on the run to avoid legal action.

After sustained efforts and credible intelligence inputs, a police team from PS Lalpora launched a planned operation, leading to his arrest .His arrest marks a step in curbing drug-related activities in the region and Kupwara Police’s commitment to ensuring a drug-free society.

Kupwara Police urges the public to actively support the fight against drugs by sharing any information regarding drug-related activities. Citizens can report anonymously, and strict action will be taken against those involved in drug peddling and trafficking.

*62 BDO posts vacant across Kashmir*

Srinagar, Jan 27 (KNO): As many as 62 key posts of Block Development Officers (BDOs) are lying vacant in the Rural Development Department (RDD) in Kashmir.

As per the details available with the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) the highest number of BDO posts i.e. 17 are lying vacant in Kupwara district, only eight have been appointed against the total of 25 key positions.

Srinagar is the only place where no posts are lying vacant, reveals a document available with KNO. In Anantnag and Bandipora, seven BDO positions are lying vacant respectively, it reads.

A total of 11 administrative positions are lying vacant in Baramulla while 6 are unfilled in Budgam district.

According to the document, four key positions each are lying vacant in Pulwama and Kulgam districts while five are vacant in Shopian. In Ganderbal, one key post of BDO is also lying vacant.

Meanwhile, Minister for Agriculture Production and Rural Development & Panchayati Raj Departments, Javed Ahmad Dar while speaking to KNO, said that the vacant posts will be filled soon.

“In the next 10-15 days, the issue related to the vacant posts of BDOs will be resolved,” he said—(KNO)
