# # # # # Vote Of Thanks # # # # #

The Journey started with a dare, a dare to dream. A dare to not be an understatement. A dare to create an extraordinary experience as a gift back to the esteemed institution that gave us everything. And oh yes we said it and we made it !!

The spark was ignited back in April 2018 and after months of preparations, curation, decoration and man management, we're proud to announce that the 2nd edition of TEDxNITSilchar has been conducted successfully.

Taking inspiration from the ' City of Love ' - Silchar, we promised to deliver you the ' Happiest TEDx Ever '. And given from the feedback we received post-event along with the smiling countenances that greeted us at the exit, gave us the vibe that we did deliver on our promise virtuously.

We had a great line up this year, with speakers belonging to different trades of life sharing their vast experience and ideas with us which meticulously injected a hope of 'a Positive Slope' in us.

The idea was simply to spread hope. And along with a team of extremely dedicated and determined individuals, we spearheaded the process of the event with the fullest of our heart, soul, and capabilities. Any shortcomings on our part are deeply regretted and will be rectified positively.

That being said this vote of thanks would be incomplete without acknowledging the organizers of TEDxNITSilchar 2016, whose immense experience was inherited by us and who have been a constant source of inspiration and motivation to the team of 2019. So a big shout-out to Aklank Jain Yashash Gaurav Shruti Datta Gupta Rajkamal Roy Rishav Kanth Rajeeb Talukdar and team. We're forever indebted to you.

The way we are indebted to our seniors, in a similar manner we are extremely proud of our juniors who in a short time gelled together as a team, and made the ex*****on of the event smooth and flawless. We are confident and assured that the future of TEDxNITSilchar is in safe and capable hands.

The vote of thanks would be incomplete without acknowledging our Faculty Advisors Dr. Wasim Arif and Dr. G Ramesh who have helped us through thick and thin. And our Chief Patron Director NIT Silchar-Prof. Sivaji Bandyopadhyay who has been a constant source of inspiration for us.

So without any further adieu, for one last time, the team heads of TEDxNITSilchar 2019 :

झंझट #02 :- " Pados Wali Aunty"

"Gossip is often a favorite recreation and an innocent pastime at all levels of society, in all walks of life and in all ages. It can be a tonic to the woman who are alone all day and crave adult conversation.

So, I know about your life better than you do. I know where you go, whom do you meet (especially if they're of the opposite s*x), who drops you home etc. You know why? Because I'm your “sweet”, “innocent”,”respected pados wali aunty”.

I know how much you've saturated your lives to mobile technology and social media. Every time you come home late or someone drops you home, I've each and every little detail. Not only do I have the information but I also have a hand in passing it on to other people.

I'm the reason why you youngsters have to think “what will people think” before each decision you take. Be it following your dream or falling in love with someone or doing what you like. It becomes worse when it comes to girls.

I always have an opinion on what you wear, if you go to a bar with your friends or if you don't perform well in your academics. I'm too concerned about your marriage also, you must have some serious issue if you're not married until 26. You can always hop in for some of my precious advice over tea!

So, you see I'll always be a part of your life no matter what you want. "

# # # # # Slope Of Hope # # # # #

Story #3 :

Humans of TEDxNITSilchar are back with another inspiring story. This story is of a man who fought for his life. He has justified that we can't direct the wind, but we can adjust the sails.

"In November '16, I was in third semester of my B.Tech. One evening, during my exams, I had a pulsating headache. I took Disprin and thought it was just another exam-ache. Destiny had some plans for me and I didn't have a clue.

I used to vomit every morning and the condition worsened with my growing sensitivity towards bright light and noise.

After the exams when I was going back home, I had a seizure. I started gagging and my limbs were getting twisted, my tongue came out and I was biting it. I was taken to a hospital and then dropped home. I was medicated with migraine. In January '17, I returned to the college, all healthy. But my mother had an instinct that it was not some normal ailment. So after three months we consulted a doctor in Kolkata and I had an MRI done.
The MRI report said that it was a Brain Tumour.

I was motionless and found myself sinking in the seat of the car. My whole life now started playing in front of my eyes, my childhood, my siblings, my school, my friends, the girl I love, literally everything. Why me? I had a billion dreams left to be fulfilled. Deep down in my thoughts I accepted that the end is approaching and I have to live years in the few days left in my hand.

My mother was sitting next to me observing me. I told my father about the tumour. He started googling every term on the report. Trying hard to be brave, my father said, "Son, you are my pride. What would be left of me without you?"

The doctor saw the report and said that its a tumour, but it's less likely to be cancerous. Its curable and the treatment holds a success rate of 85-90%. In a nutshell, he gave us hope.

My father decided to take me to a hospital in New Delhi. We planned that I will undergo the surgery after the 4th sem exams. When my fruends got the news they felt pity for me, but I used to laugh it off.

I was admitted in the hospital for seven days with no hint of exact date of my operation. Meanwhile I was under continuous observation and all sorts of tests were performed. One fine day, a doctor came to us for signing of the Consent Bond. He told us all risks involved and explained us the procedure. My operation was planned to take place on 29th June 2017.

On that eventful day, I was told to be ready by 8AM in morning. Before entering the Operation theatre, I had goosebumps down my spine. But I was brave and I am proud of it till date.

When I came back to my senses, I was still in the OT, surrounded by doctors. I asked the doctor if the operation was successful and he was assertive about it. After listening to that, I started screaming in joy, "Doctor, I fought it. I have done it. I fought it."
I showed a remarkable recovery and within three days of my operation, I was discharged. I was back to normal.

Now when I look back to that time I feel amazed for being so brave. Even today when I tell anybody that I suffered from Tumour, their grave expression explains the seriousness of the disease and the ease with which I sailed through it. My outlook towards life has changed. I am more emphathetic towards it and towards people. Difficulties we face in our lives teach us how to pick ourselves, shed the dirt and move ahead, with A Positive Slope."
