Sharad Purnima According to Hindu mythology, it is believed that Lord Krishna performed the Raas Leela with the Gopis on this night. The moonlight is said to have a divine connection with the love between Krishna and Radha.
In some traditions, it is said that consuming food kept under the moonlight on this night brings good health, as the moonlight is believed to be especially nourishing.
The night is also dedicated to Goddess Lakshmi, the goddess of wealth and prosperity. People stay awake and pray to her, believing that she blesses those who remain vigilant during the night.
