Political Secretary to Chief Minister met the Police Commissioner of Siliguri following the recent incident involving Sikkim's Driver assault issue at NJP, he shared about the meeting, in he writes-

"Today, I had an important meeting with the Police Commissioner of Siliguri at his office, focusing on critical issues affecting Sikkim and the hill regions, with particular emphasis on the troubling extortion incident involving a chalak from Sikkim at NJP, Siliguri last week . To buttress my points I submitted necessary documents like news paper cuttings ( social media ) , media drive containing the footage of the incident published in various media and a complaint addressing the concerns to the police commissioner. I laid out the grave concerns and grievances surrounding this matter, and it was heartening to see the Commissioner give his undivided attention to our worries.
The Commissioner shared with me that an in-depth investigation has been set into motion, spearheaded by an experienced senior officer of the rank of DySP. He has ensured justice for the victim and has also assured that the safety of individuals, particularly those from Sikkim and other hill regions will be of paramount importance.
Additionally, I voiced the pressing issue regarding the targeted inspections of vehicles bearing SK numbers and others from hill regions. Reassuringly, the Police Commissioner assured to issue prompt directives to the concern authorities .
Our discussions were constructive, setting the stage for continued collaboration. As we concluded our meeting on a hopeful note, there is optimism that these decisive measures will foster a climate of safety and mutual respect."

Tany Doma Bhutia Appointed Chairperson of Sikkim State Commission for Women

The Government of Sikkim has officially appointed Tany Doma Bhutia as the Chairperson of the Sikkim State Commission for Women. This announcement, issued by the state’s Home Department, confirms that the appointment is in accordance with Section 3(2)(a) of the Sikkim State Commission for Women Act, 2001, and takes immediate effect. Bhutia hails from Ravangla in Namchi District.

Devastating Earthquake Strikes Tibet: 53 Dead, 62 Injured


On the morning of January 7, 2025, a series of six earthquakes, including a major tremor, rattled Tibet's Autonomous Region. The most powerful quake, registering 7.1 on the Richter scale, struck at 9:05 a.m. local time near Tingri County, approximately 75 kilometers from Mount Everest.

The quake's shallow depth of 10 kilometers exacerbated its destructive force, causing severe damage and loss of life. Official reports indicate at least 53 fatalities, with 62 people injured, as confirmed by China's Xinhua News Agency. Neighboring countries like India, Nepal, and Bhutan also felt the tremors, prompting evacuations and widespread alarm.

Chinese authorities recorded the quake at a slightly lower magnitude of 6.8, but its impact remains undeniable. The affected region is left grappling with the aftermath, as rescue efforts continue amid the chaos.

नाम्ची जिल्ला अन्तर्गत राभाङ्लाको १४ माइलस्थित भेटेरिनरी मैदानमा ब्रदर्स युनाइटेड बर्फुङद्वारा आयोजित लोसोङ नामसुङ पर्वमा मुख्य मन्त्री पीएस तामाङ गाेलेले सहभागी जनाए । मुख्य मन्त्रीका साथ विधानसभाका अध्यक्ष एमएन शेर्पा , उपाध्यक्ष राजकुमारी थापा, मन्त्रीगण, विधायकगण,सहित अन्यकाे उपस्थिति थियो । आयाेजक समितिले मुख्य मन्त्रीलाई भव्य स्वागत पछि कार्यक्रम स्थलमा पाठपुजा गरेका थिए।

कार्यक्रममा विभिन्न सांस्कृतिक कार्यक्रमसँगै महिला फुटबल प्रतियोगिताको फाइनल खेल केउजीङ बर्फुङ विरुद्ध संगनाथ बीच भएको थियो जसमा संगनाथले विजय गरेका थिए भने पुरुष फुटबल प्रतियोगिताको फाइनल खेल युबीएफसी विरुद्ध सिङलिङको माझ भएको खेलमा युबीएफसीले ०१ को विरुद्ध ०२ गोल गरेर लोसोङ नामसुङ फुटबल प्रतियोगिताको उपाधि समाउन सफल बने।
