“Rholu Diwas: Igniting the Spirit of Youth for a Just and Progressive Sikkim"

December 21, 2009, stands as a watershed moment in the political history of Sikkim. It marks the day when Shri. Prem Singh Tamang Golay led a clarion call for political change, ushering in an era of free, indiscriminate, and unbiased politics in Sikkim. This reformation promised a governance that was pro-people, inclusive, and fair, a vision that continues to hold relevance and inspiration even today, in 2024.

Sikkim, a state defined by its youthful vigor, with almost 50% of its population below the age of 40, must deeply understand the essence of this historic call. For many young people, Rholu Diwas might appear as just another gathering or celebration. However, its true significance lies in the purpose it embodies- the relentless pursuit of justice, equality, and opportunity for all, initiated by Shri. Prem Singh Tamang in 2009.

Rholu Diwas is not just a commemoration of the birth of the political change and later political party ‘Sikkim Krantikari Morcha (SKM)’ ; it is a powerful reminder to the youth of the sacrifices, struggles, and risks undertaken by our leader and senior party workers. It is a testament to the fight against suppression, exploitation, and injustice under an oppressive and dictatorial regime. The bravery of those who stood firm against such challenges should inspire every young Sikkimese to value and uphold the democratic ideals we now cherish.

This day serves as a reflection of the journey of determination, vision, and an unwavering purpose to serve the people with sincerity and commitment rather than mere political rhetoric. As we celebrate Rholu Diwas in 2024, in the second term of the SKM Government, it is not only a moment to honor our past but also a beacon of hope and energy to fight against any form of injustice, discrimination, or exploitation. It reminds us that with determination, like that of Shri. Prem Singh Tamang, change is not just possible, it is inevitable.

The journey for a ‘Sunawlo, Samriddha, and Samarth Sikkim’ that began humbly in Rholu with a few committed individuals has now transformed into a movement of hope and aspiration. This participation today is not about the scale of the event, its stages, hoardings, or social media presence, it is about the collective power of human minds coming together with creative ideas and dreams for a brighter future, all resting upon the leadership of SKM President Shri Prem Singh Tamang.

Shri. Prem Singh Tamang and Rholu Diwas symbolize the creation of more leaders, leaders who embody the same spirit, courage, and vision that he demonstrated in 2009. Shri Tamang’s unwavering belief in nurturing and empowering young leaders is paving the way for a Sikkim that thrives on innovation, inclusivity, and strength.

Let us commemorate Rholu Diwas not merely as a political event but as a symbol of enduring service to Sikkim and its people a commitment that will continue until every democratic voice is honored, as Shri Prem Singh Tamang has steadfastly ensured.

Let this day remind us of the ongoing journey towards holistic development, collective progress, and a Sikkim that shines brightly as ‘Sunawlo, Samriddha, and Samarth Sikkim’.

Jai PS Golay, Jai Sikkim, Jai SKM!

Healing Harmony: Darjeeling MLA Apologizes to Sikkim for Ajoy Edwards’ Remarks

Healing Harmony: An Apology to Sikkim for Ajoy Edwards’ Misguided Outburst.

As an elected representative of Darjeeling, I am compelled, with great humility and profound regret, to extend an apology to the most honorable and kind-hearted people of Sikkim. Ajoy Edwards, in his rash and reckless statements, has not only failed to represent the dignity of our shared heritage but has also exhibited a disturbing ignorance of the delicate bonds that unite us as neighbors. His remarks, illogical and thoughtless, have struck a discordant note in the symphony of harmony that has long defined the relationship between Sikkim and Darjeeling.

Edwards’ accusation, that Sikkim bears responsibility for a natural calamity, is as absurd as it is audacious. To suggest blocking National Highway 10—an artery of life for a border state—is not only reckless but dangerously cavalier. One wonders if he understands that politics is not a game of hurling accusations but a noble pursuit of solving the intricate puzzles of governance.

Where was this newfound bravery when the Chief Minister of West Bengal, his “Didi,” arrived in Darjeeling with her entourage? Did he raise his voice then for the flood victims he so dramatically weeps for now? No, he stood silent, letting her inaugurate a fair at Chowrasta, his courage seemingly lost amidst the fanfare. Such selective outrage only exposes the shallow depths of his commitment and the glaring inconsistencies in his actions.

Edwards fancies himself a leader, yet his meddling in matters of diplomacy and governance only highlights his inadequacies. He seems blissfully unaware that leadership is not about interfering in the affairs of others but about responsibly addressing the needs of one's own constituency. Darjeeling Sadar 2, the very place that elected him, remains a stark reminder of his neglect—a barren field where no seeds of progress have been sown.

And let us not overlook his political misadventures—a man who could not retain control of the Darjeeling Municipality for even six months after winning it with a majority. Such failures are not just unfortunate; they are emblematic of a deeper incapacity to govern. He now seeks to build castles in the air while standing in the rubble of his glass bakery, oblivious to the cracks beneath his feet.

His much-touted charitable endeavors, funded by missionary donations from abroad, appear to be less about altruism and more about advancing his political ambitions. This dual identity—of a self-proclaimed social worker and a wannabe politician—is nothing but a façade, a mask that will inevitably fall.

Politics, my dear Mr. Edwards, is not the domain of tantrums, nor is it the playground of the reckless. It demands vision, responsibility, and, above all, an unwavering commitment to unity and progress. Instead of casting aspersions on Sikkim, I urge you to turn your attention to the unfulfilled promises and unmet needs of your own people.

In the end, Mr. Edwards is but an unpolished caricature of leadership, a shadow of what he aspires to be. His rhetoric grows stale, his theatrics tiresome, and his relevance fleeting. The people of Darjeeling deserve better than this half-baked leader with lofty ambitions and little substance.

And so, to the gracious people of Sikkim, I say: Sorry, Sikkim, forgive him, for he does not know what he says. Amen.

Neeraj Tamang Zimba,
MLA DARJEELING.
