Bathow Puja is an important religious festival of the Bodo-Kacharies of Assam, India. In this festival, the people worship a god known by
different names like Gila Damra, Khuria Bwrai, Sri
Brai (Shib bwrai), Bathow Bwrai etc. The different
forms of this festival are-Garja, Kherai and Marai.
Among these festivals Kherai is the most significant.

The name Bathou (Ba, five; thou, deep) in Borc means five principles. The five principles are: bar (air), orr (fire), ha (earth), dwi (water) and okhrang (ether). The chief deity, called Bathoubwrai (bwarai: "the Elder")- omnipresent, omniscient and omnipotent- is said to have created the five principles

Today we would like to introduce you to the Indian folk dance Bagurumba, known as the most beautiful dance of .

It is performed by Bodo women dressed in colorful and beautiful traditional costumes, accompanied by special musical instruments. The mesmerizing dance movements are inspired by nature, happiness and spiritual harmony.

Because the dance involves fast swinging and jumping, the dancers are often compared to butterflies, which led to the second name, “butterfly dance.”

Bagurumba is usually performed during the Bwisagu festival, celebrated in mid-April.
