How to use reference tracks for better mixes! Read steps below 🔻

1. Pick one or more professional sounding tracks to compare your track to.

2. Match the volume of your track with the volume of the reference

track.

3. Compare the tonal balance. How much lows, mids and highs

does the reference track have vs your track? 4. Compare volume levels. How loud are the main elements in the

reference track and how loud are they in your mix?

5. Compare 'fullness'. How many elements can you hear in the reference track vs your track? Is your mix too crowded? Or does it need more elements?

6. Compare the stereo image. Where are instruments placed in the

stereo spectrum? Which elements are wide and which are narrow?

7. Compare depth. Which instruments sound like they are in the background and which instruments feel like they're at front?

8. Compare macro dynamics. How loud are certain sections of the reference track compared to each other? How loud is the drop? How loud are the verses?

9. Compare translation. How does the reference track sound compared to yours when listening on a phone speaker? Does your track still hold up? Can you hear the most important instruments clearly?
