American Oncology Institute (AOI) in Jammu performs advanced HIPEC procedure

Jammu, 28th May 2024: The Surgical Oncology team at American Oncology Institute (AOI) in Jammu has achieved a significant milestone by performing a highly innovative procedure for an advanced stage ovarian cancer. This technique, known as Hyperthermic Intra-peritoneal Chemotherapy (HIPEC), is an advanced cancer treatment that requires skilled surgeons and state-of-the-art equipment.

The procedure was successfully carried out by the Surgical Oncology team at AOI Jammu, led by Dr Avinash Rajra and Dr Sujeet Bhat, with the proficient support of the anesthesia team comprising Dr Atul Sharma and Dr Khuram Malik.

The patient, a 56-year-old female with ovarian cancer, underwent a thorough evaluation and was counseled for HIPEC. The procedure was executed in two stages. In the first stage, Dr Avinash Rajra and his team meticulously removed the entire tumor. In the second stage, chemotherapy drugs were infused into the abdomen, maintained for 90 minutes, and then evacuated through an outflow valve.

The patient's postoperative course was uneventful, and she was discharged on the fifth postoperative day. She is currently recovering well at home, expressing satisfaction with the outcome of the surgery.

HIPEC improves long-term outcomes for patients, effectively targeting cancer cells in the abdomen with fewer side effects than traditional chemotherapy. Discussing the procedure, Dr Avinash Rajra stated, "We are very pleased to expand the scope of our surgical oncology services and bring this advanced level of care to our region and our patients."

One Way Traffic/Diversion Advisory:
✓ No heavy vehicles (Trucks, Tippers, Dumpers, Tractors, Load Carriers) shall ply inside the Town Rajouri on 24-04-2024.

✓ Vehicles coming from GMC, Darhal & Thanamandi shall adopt the Charlie TCP route via G.Os Mess-Sheema Crossing-Panjachowk.

✓ Vehicles coming from Kandi-Budhal-Bakori-Jawarharnagar shall adopt the Sheema Crossing route via Children Park-Jammia Masjid-Gujjar Mandi.

✓ Charlie TCP Stand shall operate from Darhali Bridge w.e.f. 24-05-2024 upto 25-05-2024.

✓ No vehicle shall ply from Gujjar Mandi Chowk towards Sheema Crossing via Jammia Masjid-Children Park.
