I know a few merchants who are obsessed with checking Google Analytics ๐˜ฅ๐˜ข๐˜ช๐˜ญ๐˜บ.
They obsess about bounce rates, average session duration, CTRsโ€ฆ

They are obsessed with data.
This is what they have seen most agencies do.

They feel they are in control, tracking every data.

Instead, this is what they should be spending more time on:

Last week, I shared my story about losing a user.

He shared why he left. (Iโ€™ve attached the post below.)

A couple of days later, when things were a little calmer,
I decided to act.
No overthinking.
Just action based on patterns and feedback.

Hereโ€™s what Iโ€™ve already improved inside my app:

โœ… Noticed users were churning before even subscribing to the free plan.
โ†’ That pointed to a weak onboarding experience.

โœ… Rebuilt the onboarding flow
โ†’ Cleaner, fewer steps, and a better first impression.

Here I was sitting in a review meeting, and merchant casually told me

โ€œBounce rate doesnโ€™t matter anymore. Letโ€™s look at more important things.โ€

Honestly, this isn't something new.

Itโ€™s a common belief in eCommerce now.

But I disagree.

This store had solid traffic now.
Products were decent.

But sales?
not we would like looking at traffic numbers.

They assumed people were just โ€œbrowsing.โ€
But they aren't

When I looked at the bounce rate on key landing pages. They were in the range of 70-80% ๐Ÿ’

Their Vitamin C serum has gone viral on TikTok. But it was buried inside a generic โ€œFace Careโ€ collection.

This is what they were ignoring:

- Collection pages werenโ€™t showing relevant products.

- A trending product buried in a generic collection (users couldnโ€™t find it)

- A returning visitor segment landing on a seasonal promo page that had expired.

- Product pages had weak copyโ€”no reason to stay or get interested, so no reason to buy

People werenโ€™t just browsing.
They were leaving disappointed.

For many, bounce rate is an outdated concept.

But most of the time itโ€™s just misunderstood.

And it helped me spot a UX issue that was quietly killing conversions on this store.

This wasnโ€™t some random item.
It was a ๐ญ๐ซ๐ž๐ง๐๐ข๐ง๐  ๐ฉ๐ซ๐จ๐๐ฎ๐œ๐ญ with active brand awareness ads driving traffic.

๐Ÿ‘ The ads team did their job.
The product made an impression.
Customers were searching for it.

But if they ๐œ๐š๐งโ€™๐ญ ๐Ÿ๐ข๐ง๐ ๐ข๐ญ once they land on your storeโ€ฆ
Youโ€™re losing money.

That chat led me to some analysis:
- The product was buried in a big collection with complex filters.
- A missing "New Arrivals" collection (even though new products were added weekly)
- No โ€œFeatured in Instagramโ€ section

Well, writing it over seems that these things are so obvious things,
but sometimes we make embarrassing mistakes.

These can easily be figured out with heat maps, what customers are searching, and analyzing chats with customers.

Lost a user this week.
Does it hurt? Yes

They left my Shopify app and chose one of our competitors much bigger in our space.

No founder likes seeing churn.

After my mind had calmed,
I asked myself: ๐˜ž๐˜ฉ๐˜บ ๐˜ฅ๐˜ช๐˜ฅ ๐˜ต๐˜ฉ๐˜ฆ๐˜บ ๐˜ญ๐˜ฆ๐˜ข๐˜ท๐˜ฆ?

I know the answer.
๐Ÿ‘‰ "They offer feature X. We donโ€™t."

It wasnโ€™t personal.
It wasnโ€™t about the price.
It was about ๐˜ธ๐˜ฉ๐˜ข๐˜ต ๐˜ต๐˜ฉ๐˜ฆ๐˜บ ๐˜ฏ๐˜ฆ๐˜ฆ๐˜ฅ๐˜ฆ๐˜ฅ.

I could have been defensive. But instead,
- I documented the use cases for features they wanted
- Spoke to 2 other users who said, โ€œyeah, thatโ€™d be nice to haveโ€
- Added it to my roadmap with a clear timeline

Hereโ€™s the thing people rarely talk about:
Every user who leaves is a ๐˜ง๐˜ณ๐˜ฆ๐˜ฆ ๐˜ฑ๐˜ณ๐˜ฐ๐˜ฅ๐˜ถ๐˜ค๐˜ต ๐˜ต๐˜ฆ๐˜ข๐˜ณ๐˜ฅ๐˜ฐ๐˜ธ๐˜ฏ.

Losing users isnโ€™t fun. But ignoring them is worse.

Sharing a short story about how I helped a merchant grow revenue by 35% without paid ads.
Most growth advice = โ€œRun ads.โ€
But I did it ๐ฐ๐ข๐ญ๐ก๐จ๐ฎ๐ญ running ads.

Hereโ€™s what I did in short:

Most Shopify CRO advice revolved around tweaking the checkout buttons, trust badges, or payment options.
They are essential, for sure, but you canโ€™t convert what people canโ€™t find.

Conversion starts ๐˜ฃ๐˜ฆ๐˜ง๐˜ฐ๐˜ณ๐˜ฆ the cart.
It starts with product ๐๐ข๐ฌ๐œ๐จ๐ฏ๐ž๐ซ๐ฒ.

If your collection pages are weakโ€ฆ
If your filters are confusingโ€ฆ
If your internal search shows โ€œno resultsโ€ for common queriesโ€ฆ..youโ€™re losing money ๐˜ธ๐˜ข๐˜บ ๐˜ฃ๐˜ฆ๐˜ง๐˜ฐ๐˜ณ๐˜ฆ checkout.

Hereโ€™s what you should fix first:
โœ” Clean up your ๐œ๐จ๐ฅ๐ฅ๐ž๐œ๐ญ๐ข๐จ๐ง๐ฌ (add relevant ones based on search intent)

Honestly, they all sound the same: ๐Ÿ‘‡
boring, vague, and keyword-stuffed.

Most product descriptions are either:
- too focused on SEO and keywords that no one reads
- or vague and boring, which doesn't build confidence

Use this ๐ฌ๐ข๐ฆ๐ฉ๐ฅ๐ž ๐Ÿ๐ซ๐š๐ฆ๐ž๐ฐ๐จ๐ซ๐ค that is SEO friendly and customer focused:

But your install rate is, at best, low to average.
