The above story:
Saddened that this man passed away today at age 78.
But his story is absolutely incredible..
He spent his entire life in an Iron Lung.
Paul Alexander contracted Polio in 1952 when he was just 6 years old.
After rapidly losing function in his arms and legs a doctor performed a tracheotomy and put him in the Iron lung, a device from the early 1900's which keeps him alive. The machine helps him breathe by using negative pressure to take air into his lungs.
Whilst this situation would make anyone want to give up, Paul says: “I didn’t want to die. So I continued to fight.”
Despite being paralysed from the neck down, Paul graduated high school, fought his way into college, passed the bar exam and became a lawyer.
But he didn’t stop there.
Paul wrote his own biography entirely with a pen in his mouth.
He wrote it because he wanted to inspire thousands of people.
Paul says: “No matter where you’re from or the challenges you could be facing, you can truly do anything. You’ve just got to set your mind to it and work hard!”
