A character is what connects the most to the inner depths of the other person. Evoking emotions and statements like - "This one's just like me" or "I share similar traits" and so forth. In video games, it's exactly the same thing. Although sometimes it may seem like exaggerated versions are represented in the virtual world, but hey, don't we sometimes come across unreal people in real life?

Well, it is what it is, just like we at 13Particles combine observation, talent, and delegation to bring out variegated and sometimes real-life-inspired characters in our projects. Recently we delved into the world of the metaverse-based Battle Royale game, War for Earth where we got to work on the pivotal characters.

Starting off with the "Badass" Jack, an ex-Army veteran who emerges as a beacon of resistance in the relentless war against alien invaders threatening Earth. With a fearless demeanor and unmatched combat skills, his unyielding determination, combined with his strategic brilliance honed during his military service, makes him an invaluable leader on the frontlines.

Armed with an array of high-tech weaponry and a no-nonsense attitude, he fearlessly charges into battles against overwhelming odds, inspiring hope among his fellow soldiers. Jack's journey is one of resilience, sacrifice, and unwavering heroism as he stands tall as humanity's last line of defence against the alien menace.

WOWSER! – A “Life is Strange” realistic fan artwork rendition

A picture is worth a thousand words. And when there’s a collection of them depicting a
really evocative fan artwork rendition, it becomes quite exigent to describe the visuals
without lacking short for words. Changing the entire environment from stylized to
realistic, we bring to you a complete remake of the washroom scene from “Episode 1:
Chrysalis” of the popular video game title, Life is Strange.
That particular moment right at the starting of the game when Max sees the magical
butterfly, rewinds time and tries to save her friend from getting shot, is one of the most
notable moments amidst the entire Part I of the series. As we had to hold the prestige
high for a fan artwork, while we were pondering upon what should be the choice of
scene, setting from the within the game - it seemed pretty relevant for us to go with
that one only.
Unreal Engine effectively helped us portray the scene the way we wanted to, giving it a
realistic touch. Using modular assets and related techniques to bring alive the rendition,
it felt great to see the output as it seemed like a complete makeover has been given to
the scene and realism is spewing right from our screens.
Looking back upon how it all panned out right from the eyes our Environment Artist
Taufeeq Ali and 3D Artists Nihal Sanjeevan, Rajan Verma, Vikas - the ones who contrived
the entire scene from concept and scratch to a full-fledged working UE4 project - it does
seem that the result was a work of an inspired endeavor, fueled by the tenacity of
taking on new challenges and learning, growing along the way.
Thus, after almost a month of efforts - right from collecting references to blocking out,
making list of props, assets and going forth with the production pipeline of modeling,
texturing, lighting, asset placement, adding elements for refinement and as fillers – the
team was all set for the final presentation. They emphasized that using certain
techniques pertaining to modular assets did make things go smooth during the
production process.
Overall, it was a gratifying task involving a slight learning curve as well for the shrewd
artists, as well as for Shivendu “Sh1bZ” Mishra the one who had thorough interaction
with them and curated content for press releases pertaining to this project. They’re
looking forward to work upon more such environment-based projects, where they get to
experiment with new ideas and are able to express themselves thoroughly just like they
did in this fan-artwork rendition.

Soldier

“Some people spend an entire lifetime wondering if they made a difference in the world. But, the Marines don’t have that problem.” — Ronald Reagan.
As Ronald Reagan aptly puts up, a marine is someone who is constantly making a difference, ready to tackle any situation that comes their way and embark on a new journey. On a similar front, we at 13Particles are always looking forward to trying and exploring our hands on different ideas, concepts, eventually endeavoring to create commendatoryrenditions of them.
This time we contrived to create Francis “Frags” Capburn, a soldier who’s about to ambush an enemy compound in order to eliminate all the miscreants. Modeled, textured,rigged, animated, lighted, rendered in Marmoset, we have also utilized Unreal Engine’s features to work around with the environment, highlighting our adoration and admiration for the worlds of FPS titles. Overall the showcase also reflects the inspirations of our artists, who are hard core gamers themselves and have spent several hours knocking down nemesis, hitting headshots in games.
A flavor of its own was added to this by Shivendu ‘Sh1bZ’ Mishra, who exaggerated it all by giving his voice to the character and adding SFX along with arranging BGM Distorted Doom by David Fesliyan.

Mercenary

In the vaults of our hearts and brains, danger awaits. But are we ready to take the challenge and the plunge to see the truth? Well ready to take on any challenge and thrash anything that comes their way, the characters of the Mercenary class in the Strange Clan (https://strangeclan.com) are willing to do all sorts of nasty tasks, given you pay them their desired sum or fulfill their needs.
However, working upon one such character we were able to find stark differences between him and rest of the goons in his class, primarily due to his demeanor. Thus we decided to name him Conrad Aldo, the sentry amphibian. Modelled, textured, Rigging, and Animated in Maya, he's capable of taking down adversaries with various maneuvers - combining his stealth, archery, and hard combat skills.
It also seems like Aldo has been a devout disciple of ancient Indian sages, which reflects in his overall persona and the motto that he abides by –
कर्मण्येवाधिकारस्तेमाफलेषुकदाचन। माकर्मफलहेतुर्भूर्मातेसङ्गोऽस्त्वकर्मणि॥(“Karmanyevadhikaraste Ma PhaleshuKadachana,Ma Karma PhalaHeturBhur Ma Te Sango StvAkarmani”)
– Which means, you have every right to work but not expecting the fruits out of it. Let the focus be not on the fruits and never be inactive.
