Growing up I enjoyed watching Eastman Era Hollywood Cinemas on television with my grandfather. Something about ‘picking out moments from real life and transforming them onto a reel’ captivated my imagination from childhood. Eventually I became curious about how stories were told through films. As a young student I was always inclined towards art and craft, and extra-curricular activities specifica
lly, sketching. I remember pausing cartoon shows on the television to make sketches of the cartoon characters on the screen. Later, when it was time to choose a stream for higher education, based on my interests and skills, I took up Commercial and Visual Art at L.S. Raheja School of Art, Mumbai (2009) and chose photography as my special subject. This was followed by an Advance photography course at J. School of Art, Mumbai (2011). However, Cinematography still remained a core interest of mine. Owing to my educational background in photography, while pursuing hands-on experience, I got more work as a still photographer than as a Cinematographer. This was a blessing in disguise as it landed me with an opportunity to work as a Film Continuity Still Photographer. Here, I worked alongside with some talented cinematographers and learned in-depth about handling a moving camera while attending to the directorial intentions. Although, studying photography allowed me to understand use of High Definition camera and appropriatetechnology and lighting, it was the continuity still photography that helped me to develop my vision in cinematography and to find means to execute it. Journey that began with Continuity Still Photography took turns such as Publicity Still Photography, capturing Behind the Scene videos (Making of), Shorts Films, Documentaries, Corporate and Event Audio-Visuals, Television Commercials, and Regional Commercial Feature Film. Taking the next step in to my career journey, I look forward to interesting projects and adventures enabling me to capture ‘real onto reel’, and this thought gave birth to the production house LJ Entertainment.
