Facts :
1. Lord Hanumān was God Shiv's Incarnation:
Anjana, a beautiful Apsara in the celestial palace court of Lord Brahma, was cursed by a sage that, the moment she fell in love she would become monkey faced. Lord Brahma thought of helping her and she took birth on the earth. Anjana met Kesari, the monkey king and they both got married. Being an ardent devotee of God Shiv, she kept on doing tapasya (penance). God Shiv was impressed and she wished him to be her son so that, she would be free from the curse of the sage.
Few days later, King Dasharath was performing Yagyan after which the sage gave him a bowl of kheer, to feed all his wives. A portion of Kaushalyaa, the elder wive’s kheer was snatched by a kite who flew all the way where Anjana was meditating. Lord Vaayu (aka Pawan – Wind) on the signal of God Shiv, kept the kheer on Anjana’s hand. Thinking it as God Shiv's prasaad Anjana ate it and thus was born God Shiv's incarnation – Anjaneya, the son of Anjana who is well known as Pawan Putra, the son of the Lord of Winds. His other name was Māruti and so Lord Hanumān is also called Māruti.
2. The name Hanumaan means Disfigured Jaw:
In Sanskrit, Hanu means Jaw and mān means disfigured; so, Hanumaan means disfigured jaw. No wonder, Hanumān's jaw as a kid was disfigured by none other than Lord Indr, who had used his Vajr (Thunderbolt) against Anjaneya, who took sun as a riped mango and even went to trace it up in the sky. It was here in the sky that Lord Indr had used his vajr which threw Anjaneya straight on the earth damaging his jaw forever.
3. Hanuman Once Applied Sindoor All Over His Body for Lord Rām's Long Life:
When Hanumān saw Sita Maa applying Sindoor (Vermillion) on her hair, he asked the reason for the same. Sita Maa replied that it was for the long life and well being of Lord Rām, her husband. Hanumān, the biggest devotee of Rām thought if a pinch of sindoor in the hair can increase the longevity of Lord Rām then, why not apply it on the entire body.
He then applied sindoor all over his body for Lord Rām's long life. Seeing this innocence and unmatched devotion of Hanuman, Lord Rām gave him a vardaan (blessings) that whenever the name of devotion will be taken, Lord Hanumān's name will be taken first. Also, whoever will pay respect to Lord Hanumān on Tuesday, not only will his/her wishes will come true but will also be dear to Lord Rām himself.
4. A Mighty Crocodile (Makar) Conceived Lord Hanumān's Son Makaradhwaj:
Lord Hanumān's son Makaradhwaj was born to a mighty crocodile of the same name when Lord Hanumān, after burning the entire Lanka with his tail had dipped into the sea to cool off his body. His sweat was swallowed by the crocodile and thus was Makaradhwaj conceived. The crocodile was caught by Raavan's step brother, Ahiravana, who ruled Paataal, the Netherlands. When Makaradhwaj grew up, Ahiraavan was impressed by his strength and virility. He then made him his soldier.
Lord Hanumān had lost in a duel with Makaradhwaj when he went to rescue Lord Rām and Lakshman who, AhiRaavan had kidnapped. Later, Lord Hanumān killed AhiRaavan and made his son Makaradhwaj, the king and left the place with Lord Rām and his brother Lakshman.
5. Lord Hanuman Once Rejected Sita Maa’s Gift:
When Sita Maa gave Lord Hanumān a beautiful pearl necklace as a gift, he politely declined it saying he doesn’t accept anything that is devoid of Lord Rām's name. To prove his point to Maa Sita, the ardent devotee also ripped off his chest. This was his dedication towards Lord Rām.
