We are thrilled to present two new additions to an ever enlarging corpus of Goan Portuguese texts that have been translated into English.
Weeds in the Red Dust: The Collected Stories of Epitácio Pais ranges across a Goa shaken up in the 1950s, 60s and 70s by mining and tourism, regime change and deep social shifts. These stories provide a compelling patchwork account of a region facing breakneck change and many old problems.
Originally published in Portuguese in 1987 as Contos Regionais, Regional Tales, Augusto do Rosário Rodrigues’ collection of short stories are, by turns, satirical, sentimental, comic and melodramatic, stretching from the author’s present day back to the eighteenth century.
Both texts are translated by Paul Melo E Castro.
These books are published by our CinnamonTeal Publishing and are available at The Dogears Bookshop. We ship everywhere.
